I have been off antibiotics for 3 months for various reasons. I am just now starting back and after 3 days of zithromax, my stomach and accompanying systems are completely torturing me. Could this be a herx? I never had any problem with zith before. I am starting mepron next week. Any advice on this??? Thanks so much! Betsy

Zith is very hard on the stomach!
Alot of my family members are on Zith and when they started it, it gave them alot of stomach issues (diarrhea, gas, stomach pains, etc.) The one thing that helped was an increase of acidophilus, at least 20 - 40 billion microbes a day. This really did help.
Hope this helps you, Lisi

Hi Betsy,
I have been on Zithromax for a long time now and it was very hard on my stomach. I agree with Lisi, up your dose of of acidophilus, and see if it helps. It helps me.
Take care, Beverly

Thanks Lisi and Beverly for your advice! I had just bought some new acidophilus and will take more of that. Is it OK to take all your daily acidophilus at one time or is it beneficial to spread it out?

Betsy,
My LLMD told me to take acidophilus 2 hours after abx to replace the bacteria.

Better to spread out your doses of acidophilus. Best to take last dose right before bed so it can get established overnight.

Betsy, Just a quick comment. My husband recently went back on zith and vantin as he had a relapse after off all meds for 3 months.
He had taken zith before with no problems!!....But not this time!! He eliminated and started the vantin, and no g.i. problems. When he added the zith his g.i. stuff started immediately. Doc suspects it's killing stuff in his g.i..........so he is now pulsing it and takes it 4 days during the week.
Something to consider.......it's hard sometimes figuring out what is doing WHAT
