Hello All,
Well today went back to the doctor and he said after reviewing my medical records, and looking up all the information on Lyme's. I was dx with Clinical Lymes. I am still going to LLMD in the middle of August, but my doctor started me on Doxycycile today. Have many of you taken this? Are there many side effects? Thanks for any help you can be!

hi,

Dont take this as a criticism I am just telling you so you know. Its just lyme (no s)

I couldn't take doxy - I kept vomitting it back up. It can be hard on your stomach.

I know that other people have tips (when to eat ect.) to help the stomach-doxy issues.

One side effect you must be aware of is that the sun can burn you very badly when you are taking doxy. I would stay inside as much as possible. If you have to go outside cover up.

I am glad you finally got a diagnosis. I am also very glad to hear that you have an appt with a llmd.

Best wishes

I have a stomach of steel but even I did get bad diarrea(sp) on this. But this drug was very tolerable for me. I was clinically diagnosed with lyme and had all my lyme and co-infection tests come back negative. I must note all these tests were done by Iowa Labs not using the CDC criteria so it is no surprise they were negative. My LLMD told me that I did not have to have a positive test and that all my symptoms were indications of Lyme.

Of special notice to you is that after taking Doxy for about 3-4 weeks and you all of a sudden feel absolutely horrible such as your skin hurting and or extreme fatigue keep in mind that this is normal and is proof that you have lyme. I say this because it is called a Herx reaction when all the bacteria start to die. If this reaction is really bad then you probably had a pretty high spirocite load. Some LLMD's might tell you to stick it out while others tell you to go off the doxy for a few days while the severe symptoms subside. I personnaly stuck it out because I was not told not to until later when I finally found a LLMD. Again this is my opinion and what I experienced. Doxy is a good drug and definetly should help. My other advice is to stay on it for more then 4 weeks to make sure you really get to the bugs and don't question yourself later on that maybe you weren't on it long enough early on, which is what I did. Good Luck

I took Doxycycline but after 5-6 wks switched to minocycline due to stomach issues. Please give it a good try though, because it is a very important medicine to take for a tick borne co-infection called ehrlichiosis. Don't forget to take with a full glass of H20 and sit up for 30 min. after taking so it doesn't cause burning of the esophagus. Make sure you are taking probiotics and eat sugar free yogurt every day.

Some people say that Doxy bothers the stomach more, others say they couldn't tolerate the minocycline so you just have to try them and see.

Good luck with starting your Lyme treatment!! Glad you are going to see an LLMD for evaluation.

Amy, AZURE WISH, that's the name I was trying to think of. Please PM her. She's young like you and was approved for SSDI, disability insurance benefits. Perhaps she could give you hints from a YOUNG person's perspective like yourself.

Amy, did you notice other POTS posts here; I've brought a few up for you to read, but look at screens 2, 3, 4, or better yet, use the SEARCH feature at top of page under post replies.

Please PM me how you are coming in revising Iowa's FEDERAL SENATORS/REPS; thanks! Bettyg
