According to the drug instructions, Biaxin levels can be increased by concurrent use of Diflucan.
Has anyone had this problem?

Hi Bug; long time since we've talked.
for 20 months, I was on biaxin xl, 500 TWICE/DAY for 3 days; 2 days off; then doxycycline 100 twice/day for 3 days; 2 days off; then back to biaxin .... called PULSING!
Bug, sorry I don't understand your questions; but this is what I was on till 4-06; my new LLMD said "I'm in REMISSION". bETTYG

I would like to know the answer to this one. They both have a potential to affect the heart rhythm, so I am not sure.
Perhaps call a pharmacy and ask?

I would also like to know the answer to this , try eckerds online pharmacy area, they have a rug interactions list area where you can add you meds into a list just to see what will interact, Its been a awile since I used it so I would just look for eckerds.com and try to ind the pharm section and just seee if you can locate it. If I get time tommorow I will check . I just started Biaxin and was also condidering diflucan as well. I always get strong yeast buildups everytime I get on any real antibiotics, so the diflucan is profolactic for me as I likely have chronic yeast issues at this point,

NOPE!
I wouldnt do it.
I did it before and the biaxin made me so nautious and the mettalic taste in my mouth was terrible.
The diflucan uses the p-450 enzyme pathway in the liver. It deactivated this enzyme. This is how is kills the yeast by preventing the yeast from using this and then it dies.
Well the BIAXIN also uses this pathway the breakdown itself. So when you take the diflucan and the BIAXIN together the BIAXIN is no broken down so you have side effect there.
Get it?

This is what www.eckerd.com drug interactions page says about Clarithromycin and Fluconazole:
No drug-drug interation, apparently.

Thanks Everybody!
don'tlikeliver...Eckard's says "no interaction". I threw in Plaquenil and still no interaction noted.
bettyg, how are you?
I don't know how I could be on an antibiotic without Diflucan. I start raging with yeast immediately.
Maybe I'll do colloidal silver. But that would potentiate the other antibiotics also.
Hm-m-m-m-?!

Bug, I forgot to mention I was on diflucan for 13 months with this pulsed abx program.
I don't really feel like I have made progress, but according to my new LLMD; I have & "in remission". We'll see.
Having a hard time with my NEW DIET without my food allergies:
wheat/rye, cow's milk, cheese, egg whites, & garlic plus being a diabetic
Bug, how are you doing? Bettyg Posted by Dave6002 (Member # 9064) on :

The first and sceond statements probably just a hypothesis.
I don't know if there is any solid evidence support this. Anybody knows?
Diflucan was designed to inhibit fungi's P-450 cytochrome and actually it is a very strong inhibitor of fungi.
It cured my 20 year athletic foot in a very short time (in a week). Very impressive. I wish that there would be such effective drug for Lyme.
But the P450 cytochromes of other species including human beings don't have sequence similarity to the fungus P450.
I am not sure if they have some structural similarity.
So I suspect that Diflucan would inhibit our P450 as effectively as fungi's.
But Diflucan could have some week effects on the P450 cytochromes of our system.

best to call a 24hr. pharmacy say on the slow hours(12-3am), and take the pharmacist out of his "coma" with a "pharmacy board certificate exam" question.
ask about the combined effect of diflucan and biaxin. biaxin is a macrolide, and some, if not all macrolides somehow affect heart functioning in the same or similar, or perhaps different way than diflucan. the combination could be fatal in certain circumstances, but verify this.
lyme often causes conduction defects, and the combined effect of biaxin and diflucan may not be good for this. check with your pharmacist, doctor, and detailed drug literature descriptions.
