Last week Saturday night somebody signed off with the 'old' saying "Sleep tight,,, Dont let the bed bugs bite"
Lo and behold this last week in our local newspaper an article appeared( looks like a 'AP' story out of Atlanta)that talked about bedbugs and their resurgance problems they cause like the olden days.
I didnt know they bite humans and engore themselves (on blood meals) leaving itchy red welts and swelling.
I googled the words "Dont let the bed bugs bite" and got tons of info!!!
IT says they are commonly mistaken for ticks, they look somewhat alike!! It says they were not common after WW 2 when people used DDT. now they dont and they are reinfecting even perfectly 'clean' households.
It also says they are "not known" to transmit blood-bourne infections from human to human like mosquittoes and ticks can.
My question is IF they bite, suck blood, and drop off and bite another person "WHY CANT" they transmit any blood bourne illness like 'lyme'??? AND coinfections??? Whats the difference?? same mechanics???From one who just doesnt understand,,--just don--

It is interesting however, that Hepatitis B virus has been isolated from bedbugs and it has been postulated that mosquitoes might be able to rarely transmit viraemic diseases by mechanical contamination of their mouthparts. In the case of HIV, the chances of such transmission is generally considered to be negligible as most infected patients do not have sufficient virus in the blood for them to infect biting mosquitos.

Here is some info about an enzyme product that can be used to kill bed bugs and other insects.
I read that this product can also be used for Morgellan's.

Hi, I stayed at a hotel in New York and had to leave at 2:00 in the morning due to "bed bugs." It is not something I will ever forget..very gross bugs.
You can get diseases from them.

Don, good timing; I leave Tues. overnight for my Wed. LLMD appt. I'll even check the sheets better than what I had been doing.
changing subjects ....
Don, when I responded to Catsmeow post on losing her husband, I noticed you had a post about "marking posts" you have read.
This is what I have noticed for myself:
Those I have read change color from blue to BLACK; your colors may be different. But the clue is those read are DIFFERENT color from unread ones. Hope that helps you.
Even when I REFRESH, the colors remain the same. Bettyg Posted by tabbytamer (Member # 3159) on :
betty,
you can also check the headbord, like behind the headboard and around it for signs of "spots/stains" left from bed bug excrement.
Also look over the actual mattress and any other upholstered furniture in the room.
Check your luggage before leaving, too.
There was some info recently on one of those shows, 20/20, or PrimeTime--one of those--that talked about hotels becoming infested and what to look for.

Bed bugs are named as the source of disease for one person who posts on the Morgellons board and elsewhere.
The above webpage link has photos of lesions, fibers, parasites, and personal experiences are shared. People tell of living with crawling, itching feelings, brain fog, and some who have the fibers or parasitic infections.
Some of these people post at the Lymebusters/Morgellons board.
At least one attributes Morgellons to bed bug bites. Others on LB have associated their Morgellons symptoms starting with scabies, lice, or other bug or mite bites.
Many people with Morgellons have Lyme borrelia too.

Thanks fr all the replies and links. Sure is interesting
There was quite a bit of air time on TV in last two days too. Today show this morning had extensive article. Exterminator said he is 10 times busier getting rid of them this year compared to last. Last nights news had good info also.
Says multiple family dwellings like hotels and apartment houses are running rampent with them these days as well as high end homes. No reflection of housekeeping so dont feel embarassed IF you find them. Call a professional exterminator and have him make repeated trips, you will get them.
