Curious if someone can help me? I have been reading a lot of posts and I am not quite sure about the relationship of sugar and lyme. I have been having A lot of cravings for sugar and carbs. Prior to symptoms and diagnosis, I had eliminated most all sugar and high carbs from my diet. I was using stevia and most ww flour. Now I can not stop eating. Most of you do not have an appetite. I sleep a lot and wake up starving.???? any suggestions
[bonk] [confused]

I had TONS of sugar cravings and carbohydrate cravings while on abx. You really need to keep the yeast under control or you will never really know when you're over the Lyme....the symptoms are very similar.

The other reason you need to get it under control is that it can make you completely miserable and get deeply embedded in your system.

Here is some info on yeast:

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

For me I usually crave sugar & carbs the most when I have been cheating on my anti-yest diet. It usually only takes on crispy cream donut lets say and I am craving again.

And the other times I have craved sugar & carbs is when I am herxing. Not sure why. Maybe my blood sugar is down or maybe its becuase the lyme spiroketes thrives on sugar.

Maybe when they are dying they need more sugar?

When I was IV I was out of control. Killing them and feeding them at the same time with gummy bears. Couldn't eat enough of them.

I know -insane!

Curious Lymetoo, I do take Krill Oil. What do you know about that and does the quailfy for for my Omega 3. I have been a little lax at taking my extra stuff since the diagnosis. I will have to get back on track. I also take a cal-mag that I have been slipping on. I guess that stuff is more important than the script stuff???

Lymetoo Another quick question. ( Use seem to know the most about this thing) I am back to my whey shake with stevia and fiber. I guess that is much better than the 2 donuts that I ate the last two days. How long, do you think, until the strong cravings go away? I am headed to nutrition center/health food store to stock up on all the good stuff....

A while ago I had a yeast problem with terrible sugar cravings.

It helped me to think of the cravings as the yeast craving the sugar and not my own cravings.

It's kind of gross to think about, but it truly is what is happening. The yeast need sugar to live.

To avoid eating sugar, I would look at a donut or chocolate or something and say to myself--No, thanks!--I'm going to starve the yeast!

So, I psyched myself out. And it did help.
