Last night my daughter and eye were just watching TV, getting ready to close down and go to bed, when she said one of her eyes felt like it was on fire.
She hadn't recently applied any creams, so we know it wasn't a toxic substance. After a few minutes the other eye started to burn, as well.
I had her flush her eyes for about 10 minutes. As hard as it is to go to the ER, she was ready to go. We got dressed and heading out the door, when she said it was starting to subside.
As far as I know she is doing okay, because we went to bed and I told her to wake me if we needed to go to the ER.
I'm assuming everything is okay (she is still asleep), so any ideas on what could cause this?

If she has lyme they can do that on there own also is she on abx's? I fshes on Ketek it made my eyes burn and itch. Did she touch anything that day like hot peppers anything etc?

My eyes would tear and burn often even whlie on meds. I'm sure that it was from Bart. It finally got better after about 3 months on Bart Tx. But it also has come back somewhat after stopping bart meds for a few months and concentrating on lyme.
You're lucky that it didn't cost you an ER visit. They couldn't have done anything, and you would have had to sit there for hours waiting.

Thank you for your post as it helped me to remember that I have had burning eyes about 3 times over the past 2 years or so. It is a very strong burning sensation. It never made any sense to me at the time. I thought it may have been lyme or murcury related at the time. The longest it lasted was about 2 days. I think I used to get sometimes when I was taking biotic silver which will kill everything. So I think it is a form of herxing perhaps.

When I had my first J-H reaction...my whole body, including my eyeballs were burning.
Now, my eyes will have the feeling of paper cuts all over them (for a fraction of a second--not constant).

Wow, thanks for the affirmations. Now we know it's part of the BEAST. What isn't?
Anyone find relief with anything? She uses "refresh eyedrops". They have always helped with dry eyes.
It wasn't anything that she touched or accidently rubbed near her eyes. We were just sitting on the couch watching tv, when it just it all of a sudden. She is on Zithromax and Rifampin.
I'm sure she will be sensitive today. Yes, she did ask if something was in her eyes, and she has complained that they sometimes feel like she has paper cuts.
She was born crosseyed, so she has had three surgeries on her eyes, to correct the muscles. To have pain in them is scary.
I'm glad we didn't go to the ER. I don't think that is ever a lyme friendly place.
Any other means of support is appreciate.

The only other thing I could suggest that helped me was washing my face often with unsecnted clear soap.

I used to sometimes have burning in my eyes, before I was diagnosed. I thought maybe I had rubbed oil from my eyelid into my eye. It would sting worse when I would rub my eye.

Clear soap: I'm an Arbonne consultant, we only use unscented, no-color, no fragrance, no mineral or animanl. So, there is very little irritant to the products.
However, that doesn't mean that there is NO possibility that anything can't irritate when you have a disease that causes hypersensitivity to anything. She has been using the products for about three years, so we have a track record with them.
Her eyes are sensitive today, as expected, but not as painful as last night. We will just put this on the question list when we see the LLMD

It will be good to ask your LLMD about it at your next appt.
My LLMD did suggest I see an opthamologist, just to make sure everything was OK. I did. And it is. He is a friend of mine, so he believes the whole lyme story. He did get a surprised look on his face when I described the "fleeting" paper cut feeling that I get. I don't think he has heard that symptom much at all before.
