We had tremendous success with Oregacyn P-73. Depending on the severity of the yeast overgrowth, you may need to add Diflucan, as well.

The fungal fighting properties of wild oil of oregano are supported by research conducted at the Georgetown University Medical Center and led by Harry G. Preuss, M.D. The study, which was published in the journal, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, tested the efficacy of oregano oil against the fungal infection Candida albicans (better known as a yeast infection) in mice. The study concluded that oil of oregano ``can act as a potent antifungal agent against Candida albicans.'' (228: 115). With anti-fungal abilities like these it is easy to see why Business Week magazine said, ``Oregano could turn into the next wonder drug.'' (October 22, 2001)

Yeast have never been a problem for me.
C. difficile is an ongoing problem for me.
I use both of those probiotics. I have 6 different probiotics lined up in my refrigerator. I rotate them, using 3 different ones each day (one after each meal). The theory behind this is to get as many kinds of probiotics into me as I can. Also, in case one bottle is less potent for whatever reason, I'm not relying on it alone to keep my GI tract healthy.

on additional question ....
Can you take TOO MUCH probiotics? Are there negative consequences of taking too much?
thanks

That's to KILL the yeast. Theralac and Culterelle are probiotics.
I haven't tried Culterelle, but I LOVE Theralac!!! Read the info on it at www.theralac.com It tells why it works so well.

glenn....I think you can get diarrhea from too many probiotics. The nice thing about Theralac, is that you only have to take one pill per day.
They recommend even less than that, but I think anyone on long term abx, needs the one per day.
Happy shopping!! Posted by clpgotlyme (Member # 7875) on :
I think you need to use multiple products also. I tried using the highest recommened dose of Theralac and still got a bad case of yeast. Since I use multiple kinds it is under control. Cindy

I also agree with the above posters in that - rotating the probiotics seem to work best for me.
I would also like to say adding the pro-biotic pearls have been working really well lately.
Sorry I haven't tryed the culturelle. Where do you get that?

culturelle can be bought at any CVS or other such drugstores. It does NOT have to be refrigerated, but it lasts longer/better if it is.
It is good for travelling and is one of the few that I like to rotate in. Cost is about $20 for 30 tablets--i believe you use 1 or 2 per day

Unfortunately, Theralac didn't work for me, although a lot of people seem to love it. I like Culturelle, but it's not nearly as strong as Theralac. I did very well with Primal Defense by Garden of Life for about a year and 1/2; unfortunately, it doesn't pack much of a punch anymore. I just started using Dr. Mercola's new probiotic he sells on his website and it is working great! I take that for my "big guns" probiotic and then supplement it with Culturelle and Lactoblend by Allergy research group here and there.

I agree with most here--maybe take both or rotate them one day take one kind, next day take other kind. I take Theralac and PB8. They have done a fine job for me.

Glenn,
It's impossible to take too many probiotics while you are doing abx or herbal Tx's. It's a constant game of trying to catch up because you are constantly killing off the good bacteria as well.

Thank you for the info about the oil of oregano. I purchased the brand you recommended.
Noticing that my sinuses are draining better. Ear pressure much better, helps with dizziness.
