anyone use over the counter dmsa for chelating heavy metals?

DMSA requires a prescription and can be purchased from a compounding pharmacy. It should only be taken under a knowledgable physician's guide

Take care.

Hi,
I am taking OTC DMSA for heavy metal chelation. Perhaps GiGi meant that any heavy metal chelation program should be carefully supervised by a doctor.

Detoxing from heavy metals is fraught with many complications: redistrubution of mercury/ other metals to places where they cause more damage. There is also the danger of pulling out too much of the bodys much needed good minerals.

The doctor who is supervising my heavy metal detox considers: when my body is capable of detox, which agents will work best at that time, dosage, schedule, and adjunct agents such as chlorella and cilantro. I also take plenty of liquid minerals, magnesium, selenium, and zinc during the chelation.

So, you can get DMSA OTC, but use it carefully under the supervision of a doctor who has much experience with heavy metal chelation. After doing some research on heavy metal chealtion, I would not embark on it alone.

"Captomer" is DMSA and OTC. I think it is made by Thorne.

I believe that Vital Nutrients also makes a 100mg otc DMSA capsule.

I do not think it is available over the counter in the State of Washington. I have a high respect for DMSA because it crosses the blood brain barrier and I would rather have it that way (otc) -- a doctor should supervise this med. It can be dangerous when taken at the wrong time and without accompanying agents and therapies.

I really mean to warn anyone. You might find yourself thinking this Lyme and that Lyme problem when symptoms return, while Lyme is under control but you have messed up with mercury detox.

Detoxing mercury out of the brain is not easy.
Often the road is blocked and the med cannot get there. Again it's not what you use, but how to get it into the body compartment where it is needed.

I agree totally with Serendipity.

Take care.
