I was told that this was due to chronic fatique syndrome. That people with cfs's sense of smell was trememdously heightened and may cause you to get sick if you are around people who wear to much cologne or perfume. Supposidly, it goes right to our liver and causes us to get sick. i had been wondering why i couldn't wear my perfume nor my boyfriend his cologne anymore and now i know why.

I've recently developed this, where if I'm in line somewhere, a person's perfume, cigarette smoke residue or even someone's soap scent from their body stings my nose. I actually have to cover my nose, it's that bad.
I don't think it's from chronic fatigue, though. Not in my case, anyway. I think it's lyme related. Or it could be that I'm on four antibiotics so that my body just can't handle any extraneous environmental chemicals. It's so overloaded with toxins as it is.

I'm a Lymie who has had this for several years... my family refers to it as my "super power" because I can smell things that nobody else can.
There are certain smells, like a wet newspaper, that make me so nauseated. I don't think it could go right to your liver though. Cigarette smoke probably could, but probably not "ordinary" odors.
I'm thinking that it must be related to the little buggers messing up our hormone levels. Because the same thing happens when a woman becomes pregnant and her hormone levels change.

It's Lyme related for me, too, and it isn't just smells. It's also sounds.
Smells are the worst, though. Prior to getting Lyme, I ate fish several times a week. Now, I can't eat it; just the smell of fish sends me over the edge.
There are many times I've had to switch seats in restaurants or in the movies, because of perfume someone was wearing near me.
It's gotten better since I started taking abx, but I'm still pretty sensitive.

I have this as well but in addition I get shortness of breath with certain smells like diesel, gas and exhaust fumes. It is really strange. Anyone else???? Betsy

I am hyper-sensitive to smells and sounds since lyme disease. Especially, I have bad reactions to perfumes -- such as the perfume inserts in magazines and anyone wearing perfume. They cause alot of brain fog, fatigue and nausea. Hasn't gone away after two months of abx, but I do seem to be more relaxed around some annoying sounds.

i was told this by a dr who was not ll, i also have lyme to along with cfs and fibro so i could be any number of them or all. up here in vermont it is hard to find a lld, because we don't have as many cases of lyme disease. it freezes up here in north country, but there are more cases popping up as of late unfortunately.

Hi all
Candida (yeast) can cause the increased smell sencitivity-- Very common with candida--
When I had candida real bad perty much every smell bothered me-- Gasoline -cleaners-perfume-smoke ect-
The smell of wheat grass juice being made would give me a instant headache-- I worked in a health food store 30 feet from the juice bar--Ouch--
As your candida gets better the smell thing will go away --Jay--
