What does you all find works best for sleeping through the night?
I know that as I get better, my sleep is supposed to return to normal, but I need help before that!
I have tried: - Tylenol PM - Sleep-eze - Valerian root + hops combination - Requip (dopamine enhancer)
None of these have helped my sleep. Any suggestions? I'm desperate to get some sleep.
thanks!

I try to exhaust myself and not take naps during the day. Of course I may get cranky........Other then that. Not enough sleep.

my doc gave me lunesta but i get extremely jittery on it and bounce off the walls so i only took a couple of dosages.
tried elavil but because of major weight gain and munchies, stopped that too.
now found out that elavil interferes with absorption of the antibiotic.
anybody know anything about that? something about cp450 enzyme or something..........

Nights that i have a hard time sleeping, i will fill the bath tub up with water as hot as i can stand it and soak for about 15-20 minutes. Make sure you sit in the tub before you start the water cause it helps with tolerating the water being real hot. This works. Another trick: if you are eating 3 meals a day, make sure to have enough protein for your body weight with each meal(body weight divided by 6), and 3 hours after dinner eat a 1-4 oz baked potato(very small). This only works after several weeks of eating the proper amount of protein, after that this will knock you out. Think this is rubbish? Check it out > radiantrecovery.com

My lymie daughter has had lots of trouble sleeping. Ambien, lunesta, elavil and others did not help. Her doc then prescribed something called trazadone, which actually seems to help.

Melatonin-3-6 mgs. Works like a charm!
Posted by Vermont_Lymie (Member # 9780) on :
these all work for me:
Homeopathic "Calms" (sold in the health food store, think it is Hyland brand); calcium; and a lavender-oil foot message!
Posted by JimMet (Member # 7787) on :
I'm with Sojourner: 3 mg of melatonin an hour before bedtime.
Posted by Andie333 (Member # 7370) on :
melatonin + a cup of an herbal tea called Tea for Sleep.

Doc prescribed temazepam; it works for me.
Posted by 5dana8 (Member # 7935) on :
benadryl/and or meletonin
A natural fix combo I like of is: B6 & calcium & magnisum. Taken at once.
make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD

I've tried all kinds of sleep meds.
The last one I was on was Xyrem which is so strong you actually can't be awakened. It worried me because I have teenagers who are out late sometimes.
I started Xango (Mangosteen juice) and after about 2 months, both kids were out one night late so I didn't take the Xyrem. I slept all through the night!
My normal even with sleep meds (not Xyrem though) was to wake up 5 or 6 times a night.
I haven't had any sleep meds since then and that was 2 months ago. I hope it keeps working!!!
My mother-in-law says it has done the same thing for her.

No meds help me whatsoever; makes me worse like the everready bunny running on batteries!
I love having my favorite music play on the radio on a lower volume so I hear it but I don't lay there singing to every song! That comforts me.
I'm now able to have my windows open; the street noise was terrible before but has eased up on that aspect alone; no others.
I sympathize with your daughter so much! Give her an extra hug/kiss for me will you? Bettyg Posted by just don (Member # 1129) on :
Optimistick,
Nope,no special brand. Got this at Walgren Pharmacy. made by CMC (whatever that is). Good luck because hard to find salt pills any more. These are made to make saline solution, I think!! Thermo-tabs arent good for you, something else in those that you dont want.

Tylenol PM is tylenol (acetaminophen) plus Benadryl (diphenhydramine HCL).
During my years of nursing and always having to justify psychotropic meds we were told by some that long term use of even Benadryl can cause some movement problems ie. extrapyramidal movements...parkinsonism, cogwheel rigidity to name a couple.
I don't remember the source of that information, possibly government surveyors so take it for what it's worth.
I think I would not stay on anything for sleep long term.
My opinion only.

Check with your LLMD first.
I use melantonin 3 mg each night. My Msh is low because of the lyme.

Mangosteen for sure. Also the Armour Thyroid is helping, or it's the gluten free diet. Celiacs have insomnia problems too.
I've been able to get off neurontin and Ambien in the past few months and am sleeping VERY well.
