For the past week, the outside of my ear (top outside) has been tingling, in fact it is so stimulated sometimes it hurts.
I have to rub it and then the sensation goes away, only to come back in a few minutes.
Starting a few days ago, the sensation will then travel into my inner ear, doesn't usually hurt but it can drive you crazy.
I can't wait for it to go away.......

Hey Jazzman-short answer first- it went away for me.
Soon after I started treatment the upper outside part of my ear really hurt-like some kind of bug had their pincers in it.
I thought maybe my glasses needed adjustment soemhow, or my pillow was pinching me, or my ear was folded wrong when I slept.
I kept looking in the mirror to see why it was hurting so much-then after a week or so- the sharp pincer pain ,like getting a piercing, went away-and I haven't had it back since.

Jazzman,
I had the tingling in my chin as a herx.
What abx are you on? I have heard of folks here getting in to trouble with nerve damage on certain abx. (flagyl one) you don't want tinnitus or such.
Are you a musician?
We find heat helps pain and tingling.
Best Wishes, Char

Well, I am currently starting week 5 on cefuroxime (500 mg 2x day).
I've have no impact at all to my hearing...thankful for that.
It's just the uncomfortable/slightly painful sensation that I'm anxious to get rid of.
Sounds like it will *hopefully* go away soon.
Thanks for the responses.

Cefuroxine is what I was taking when I had the intense outer ear pain, too. But to be real about this I must tell you once a pain left one location it showed up in another location-like pulsing pain across each wrist, then my shoulder, my feet, name a body part and the migration continues.

Carol,
Wow! I've had the shoulder thing (sometimes just pulsing pain, sometimes inner hot pain) also.
I love the way this disease kind of roams around the body.
The only saving grace in all of this (at least from what all I've read) is that all of this means that the spirohetes are being killed.
Very cool.
Thanks again for the feedback!

It has gone away now. The abx your on is one of the few I havent taken so you might want to check side effects - ya never know.
Best wishes

Yeah, Jazzman...don't worry too much about the transient pain issues...
I had the ear thing too among a host of other pain symptoms all over my body...
Had a real annoying one where my scalp used to twitch above my eyes like I was trying to wiggle my ears....
Could'nt get it to stop...by myself...but it finally went away all by itself...
