your system is probably exhausted from trying to clean up. Your kidneys and liver are your filter systems, they have the nasty job of cleaning up and filtering everything, so often they will be in bad shape post illness and treatment rather than during.
Have you done a detox at all?
Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
thanks elley,
no i havent done any detox, im not even sure i know what one is/
I did search about the BUN and it said high protein can cause it.........ive been eating pounds of meat a day cause im always so hungry. Im going to slowly reintroduce some complex carbs and see.
It makes sense the liver and kidneys are overloaded.......plus it appears my immune is starting to come back some.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
Yeah, it could be from the protein.
One reason the tests are now showing up is that they often run "behind"... The problem may have existed months ago, and just now is showing up on the tests.
I hear ya on the stress level. I'm sorry things aren't going so well.
If your LLMD didn't say anything to you about the tests, then maybe he's not worried?? The test results are not WAY off...but the trend is not good if this continues.
Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
thats what im afriad of lymetoo, the trend. this is my first kidney blood test since April....i just hope it improves.
my greatest fear is kindey failure.
so maybe when i was in a lot of pain a few months back it was my kidneys....im going to say extra prayers they bounce back.

Most antibiotics are metabolized/detoxified/excreted through the liver, but some are excreted through the kidneys. Others, like Doxycycline, go more through the intestines.
The medications you are on can affect your liver and/or kidneys. That's why many of us take liver and/or kidney herbal support, and why we have our blood tests done regularly.
Some of us, myself included, have been through major issues with the liver or whatever due to medications. I survived, but was very frightened. Sometimes you even need to take a break from antibiotics to let tests return to normal.
Of course all this needs to get discussed with your Lyme doctor.
Take care, Jill

hmmm the only thing ive been taking is niazarol for yeast the last few months. I also was taking an immune booster with echinacea in it.
im off everything but probiotics now.
Posted by elley0531 (Member # 9434) on :
You should ask your LLMD first, but Milk Thistle is something alot of us take regularly for our livers...its a good support.
Also, make sure you are drinking lots of filtered water.
Sarsaparilla Root and Nettles are good kidney detox supplements, and you may want to do a general cleanse that cleans all these areas at once.
I'm doing the toxinout program through drnatura.com along with their colonix.
Make sure you run it by your doc first though, there may be a reason it wasn't addressed at this time.

Someone told me once that you shouldn't take echinacea for more than two weeks at a time. I don't know why they said that, but maybe it adversely affects the kidneys or liver.

Nizoral is very hard on the liver.
Your liver enzymes are a bit up but not dramatically so. It happens a lot when you
a) have Lyme b) are treating it with abx
Re-test in about a months' time, in the mean time asl your LLMD what he thinks

Drink Lots of water and or tea--
I am taking very large amounts of ABX- My liver tests come back perfect-
I drink about 3 gallons of tea aday- and have not become toxic sence starting drinking this much tea--Jay--
Posted by dontlikeliver (Member # 4749) on :
Tea can cause kidney stones, so with any kidney issue I would beware of drinking tea.

Im more worried about the kidneys..........and failure. I just dont know how to get out of this nightmare.........
i cant gain weight....im wasting away,
now my kidneys are failing.....
maybe the echanacea ruined them.
dontlikeliver thanks for the PM....i will write soon........im just trying to figure out my next step. probably a kidney dr.

Increasing fluids could be helpful. Also, you may want to look into kidney support supplements with the help of a trained practitioner.
I hope you find something that helps soon.

Sorry to hear this cant
Don't know much about the kidneys except cranberry juice is good for them
no, i havent had the urine test done at all....my LLMD didnt even mention my kidneys were out of range :-/ no followup blood work ordered.
what urine test should i ask for?
Im trying to figure out a more balanced diet.....its tough cause im always so hungry.
I dont have a PCP, but may go to a walk in center near me and see if they can help, or the ER..so I can get tests done.
im not on any meds.......and now looks like i cant even take azo or the urelle cause it mentions not to take if you have kidney damage.
thanks for your help.

Personally if I was having all those problems with kidneys and liver I would get off everything {except abx for a while}Get off yeast treatment get off everything.
Now I would take complex b vitamin & Mg {acidophilis by handfulls} & I would get milk thistle for liver & yogurt for absorbion and I would drink plenty of good filtered water but not so much to overload kidneys enough to flush them. & eat good beef chicken fish etc & vegatables dark ones like broccolie, asparagas, NO sweets or diet sodas or fructose containing drinks, Whole grain bread if you have to have bread.
Thats what I would do.

Hi Can't,
I'm sorry you are still having sooooo much trouble.
At this point, your system is really messed up. Please find a really good doctor who specializes in nutrition. One that will analyse your bloodwork and strengthen your weak areas. Otherwise, you are just shooting at the sound of ducks rather than the duck itself.
Your LLMD is probably not sufficiently trained in nutrition. Keep him for the lyme and find another for the other. If you keep going to specialists, they will just keep drugging you for each individual symptom and never look at the whole picture and the true source of your problems.
Good luck. Our prayers are with you.

Oh hon, I am so, so sorry! Like you need this crap now!! Any chance the Nizorol could be doing this?? I know it can be really hard on the liver and I would think it could be on the kidneys too.
Please dont give up. Make those dr's figure out what the heck is wrong!!!
Nancy

I would first contact my LLMD to make sure he is aware of this. Perhaps it was missed.
Mine always mails my labs to me with a note about them and tells me to contact him if I have questions.
It's not unreasonable for you to call and leave a message about it. That would also be a good time to ask about milk thistle and any suggestions for kidney support.
Hang in there! I know this must be very difficult and upsetting for you, but it's not the end of the road yet; just time to look a bit deeper into it.

Do you know what your creatinine level is? This is vital to know regarding kidney function. If they ran your GFR, I presume they ran your creatinine. If your creatinine is normal, you are in much better shape than you think.
You are not in kidney failure - please don't panic yet.
When my liver enzymes shot up to nearly 1,000 - yes, 1,000 from one of the antibiotics, I was nearly in liver failure.
You are only a little out of range, so please don't panic yet.
But definitely get a good comprehensive blood work-up as others have suggested.
Jill

Thanks everyone.
Im saying lots of prayers that my numbers go back to normal on the next blood draw.
Im seeing my Holistic gyn next week, so im going to ask her to run a full panel on everything possible. She warned me about the kidneys and high protein at the last visit.......ugh, so i have cut back a ton on the protien.
and suprisingly im not as starved as i was eating the meats.
My creatinine level is 1.4, but the range is .5-1.5 and my normal is .8.
My WBC is around a six now too.....used to be a 4.7.

I have an appt with a kidney dr next thursday. With my family history of kidney problems....i cant mess with this.
Ive been feeling so sick lately....tounge is a little whitish and im soooo thirsty....neck hurts too.
I put a call into the llmd too.
I spoke to the kidney specialist directly and he asked what other chronic health problems i have....so i say lyme disease, he pauses and says ...but that is being taken care of. (like it was nothing)
Posted by elley0531 (Member # 9434) on :
pft. Ducks.
I really think your poor body is just exhausted...not that its anything to play around with, especially if weak kidneys run in the family.
Just make sure to drink alot of water...hows your stomach? Try to start eating lots and lots of green veggies, especially leafy ones like spinach...raw if your tummy can handle it.
Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
yea elley.....pft is right!
my tummy is rumbling more now....i have more BM too....
im eating so many greens my BM are GREEN.
its my bladder that cant handle much foods.
im drinking 2 L a day is that enough....im only 90lbs
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

That's plenty. As a rule of thumb, drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces....hence: 45oz. One liter is less than 32oz..??
Hope you get some answers this week!

Hi again,
I've been having a crash course on kidney issues because my dad has them, and recently was bitten and got Lyme (now there's two of us in the family!) so I've had to learn a lot about kidney tests, which antibiotics may not be so harsh on the kidneys, etc.
You probably already know this given your family history of kidney issues, but potassium levels need to be watched so they don't get too high. My dad needs to be somewhat careful of not eating high-potassium foods (orange juice, bananas, etc).
I'm sure your potassium blood level is being checked but I'm just throwing this in because I just learned it.
Take care, Jill
Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
Thanks Jill,
My potassium was low for a few months now it is a 4.2, back to normal range. I dont eat too much potassium foods because the foods that are high in it hurt my bladder.
Im sorry to hear about your father......gosh kidney issues and now lyme. Hes very lucky to have you to help him thru it :-)

I may have misread since I read ALL the responses on this thread.
Cant, I think you mentioned protein in the urine; correct?
If yes, have them do a AIC, 3 mo. check for blood glucose/sugar for POSSIBLE DIABETES.
That's how I learned I had diabetes.
Dad died from congestive heart/kidney failure, so I got to know more about both issues.
Potassium was an issue all the time. He was on water pills.
Hope they find your problem soon, and I sure wish I could DONATE 50-60 lbs. to you immediately; won't even miss it off of me! LOL Bettyg Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
thanks betty,
funny you should mention the A1C test, i was looking last nite thru labs and it was run last Sept , never run since then :-(
with my current kidney problems diabetes could be it for me.
I keep getting the , but your glucose is fine....line.
no, so far no protein in urine. I need a new urinalysis soon.
