Hi,

Was wondering if you can drink at all on Tinnidazole? I know when I was on Flagyl I could not even have cough medicine while on it. Is it the same with Tinnidazole?

thanks,

lesley

NO NO NO...you WILL end up in ER!

Tinidazole is 3rd generation of Flagyl.

Flagyl PREVENTS THE BREAKDOWN OF ETHANOL/alcohol.

Too much ethanol is very damaging to healthy cells.

Ethanol alters lipids.

Flagyl inactivates a very specific P450 (liver)enzyme.

So does a "natural" food...it's green.

Hi Marnie,
I'm rather new and I'm busting my butt to learn about all of this, make the correct decisions, and help my husband get well.

I want to learn from you, but I can't deal with the riddles--it's too tiring and frustrating.

I understand that flagyl/tini and even the azoles inactivate the P450 enzyme and I think the Lyme bug needs this, however, what green food are you talking about?---spinach,parsely,asparagus,artichoke,cilantro,peas,greenbeans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, various lettuce leaves, celery, carrot tops, collard greens, chlorella----I give up. OK, scratch the, "I give up" I guess chlorella--am I correct. Do I win the prize?

I would really like to know which green food inactivates the P450 enzyme.

If you have any kind of alcohol while on Flagyl or Tinidazole, you can get deathly ill.

I hope this will not in any way be construed as encouraging anyone to drink while on Tini, but ... during my last five day pulse, I totally forgot and drank 1/2 glass of white wine while out for dinner. (Truth be told, I probably drink a small glass of wine twice a month, but never before while on Tini!) And nothing happened! In fact, I didn't even make the connection until the next day when I was reading a post about Flagyl and alcohol, and I was stunned that I could have been so forgetful. That in itself is an argument for never drinking a drop.

Perhaps the reason nothing happened is because I took the first tini in the morning, had wine with dinner around 6, and then didn't take the other tini until 11pm-ish when we got home. Maybe the small amount of wine I had was out of my system by then.

Still, it scares me to think how sick I could have gotten. I will never make that mistake again.

well now, since lesley1954's experience, this "appears" to have changed the odds of doing [sleepy]

and so therefore: [woohoo] [lick]

if, then, it appears as though there are "n-1 chambers" loaded in 5-nitro-"night-night" roulette, are there "n-1" chances of doing [sleepy] ?

... [spinning smile] ...

Let me say emphatically that I hope no one, including both Lesleys -- the one who posed the question in the first place and the Lyme-brained idiot (ME!) who would never have had wine if she remembered she was pulsing tini that week -- tests the odds of this based on my experience!

I also want to add that unlike many who post here, I do not seem to be particularly sensitive to medications. I rarely herx when beginning a new drug, although I do have a regular flare up of Lyme symptoms every 3-4 weeks and have experienced steady improvement since beginning abx treatment 9 months ago. During that time I've been on Zith, Ketek, Biaxin, Plaquenil, Minocycline, Mepron, Malarone, and monthly pulses of Tinidazole, and have not had any problem taking full dose prescribed. Perhaps that helps explains why I "dodged the bullet," but I really don't know.

i second lesley1954's admonition.

let there be no "board games" with such names like,

5-nitro-"night-night" roulette. [lol] [Cool]

There are MANY P450 enzymes.

Gotta get really specific as to which one is involved with ethanol.

Watercress.

Ha,i took tinidazole pills for months and drank BEER,with no problem.

I took the pfizer brand fasigyn...not the locally compounded stuff, for 6 months at a high dose(2g/day).

towards the end after being a teetotaler for all those months I unwisely forgot and took a sip of a margarita at a party.

Realizing what I'd done I stationed myself next to the bathroom knowing full well what was to come. The hostess came by and asked why I had been standing morosely at the bathroom door for half an hour.

I replied that I had combined alcohol with a 5 nitroimidazole and would surely hurl. She said maybe you need a margarita...which I accepted figuring that would be better coming out my nose than stomach acid.

nothing happened....nothing. except two more margaritas and i couldn't say 'nitroimidazole very understandably...

This stuff is highly individualized...some get sick on it some don't...lots of people on this site have been able to drink with tini...but NOT flagyl, It's just not quite the same stuff.

Maybe try a mouth rinse with listerine and see if you get queasy, then decide.

again NOT with flagyl.
