Treated for EM with 21 day course of doxy. Finished meds on 8/21. Still have small dark spot where center of EM was. Massive fatigue. Now suffer from chronic head, neck, and jaw pain. My dermatologist seemed to think that residual EM after course of antibiotics was not indicative of treatment failure.
Heading to Stony Brook next week to see ID specialist who is supposedly a LLMD. Can anyone else out there relate?

I had an EM rash from a tick bite that lasted 6 months with IV treatment. It was a definite EM rash because it was at the site where the tick was removed from.

It gradually faded during treatment. When treatment stopped, I developed 3 smaller EM rashes close to the original site. They also gradually faded.

I was told that not all rashes are the same, some are atypical and they don't all last for a specific amount of time.

I am still symptomatic and in need of treatment, but luckily no more EM rashes.

Hi Elliot

21 days of doxi is Not enough--

Let me guess the doc gave you 200mg aday--
that works for many germs -Not Lyme--

400 to 600mg of Doxi
spread threw the day is nessiary for effective
Early treatment- 6 to 8 weeks minimum treatment -
usually longer

Early- means is less than 2 weeks from
time of infection--

Everyday of untreated infection greatly
increses the severity of infecton and
greatly increases the treatment time and
amount of meds required for recovery--

You have symptoms you have desease -

Take picture of the bruse --Jay--

The RASH is NOT the problem!! It's the pain, fatigue, etc!!!!

There are only about 3 ID drs in the US who treat Lyme disease long term....meaning they treat until all symptoms are cleared.

You may want to go over to Seeking a Doctor and begin your search for an LLMD...a Lyme Literate MD.

I'm sorry you're still suffering. Let us help you get that taken care of.

Yes, I completely agree with lymetoo, treatment failure is indicated by the fact that you still have symptoms!!!

I'd get to an LLMD ASAP!!!!! Check in the seeking doctor section to see if the doctor you plan to see is recommended by others.
