I was very ill with lyme. After 4 1/2 months of IV rocephin (along with some oral ketek and doxy) I came back into the land of the living again.
I was on the IVs for 6 1/2 months, before the line got pulled due to a fungal infection in the line.
I was not put on antibiotics right away, since the docs wanted to make sure I didn't have a fungal infection.
I ended up relapsing with lyme symptoms, and am working to get out of that situation.

I have only been on oral abx. I have definitely had gain, but know the Bb is still in my CNS.
I suspect my LLMD will be recommending IV therapy but when I hear stories like this -- 6 months of IV only to relapse -- I have to wonder why bother with IV? Any studies on what it's success rate is?

Rocephin has a big relapse rate....sorry. [it's not the IV that's the problem]
Just make sure that the IV is followed up with plenty of orals. THEN perhaps you won't relapse.
Hope I haven't totally burst your bubble!
Do a search here for Rocephin. Click on the little word "search" above.

mntwoman~ I believe I relapsed because I was taken off all antibiotics...at first due to the fungal infection in the picc line, then due to C. difficile. If I had been put direcly onto orals or IM after stopping the IV, I doubt I would have relapsed. The docs at the time were trying to deal with the crisis of the day....picc line infection, then C. diff. The lyme was forgotten, until it hit me again like a freight train.
The IVs got me back into the land of the living. I had severe neurological lyme disease. I'm glad I did it.
