I have not been on this site in a while and I have been symptom free for about 8 months, so there is hope!
I had a really hard time getting my health provider to subscribe the correct antibiotics for Lyme Disease. I have a Health Network, so all my doctors are in the same building etc. I had to go outside and pay out of pocket (like many of you) and I finally got the correct treatment and I feel great.
So the ironic part, I went to the doctor last week to have a biopsy done on a spot on my face. My Dermatologist then asked if I wanted to treat my adult acne and I said that I have tried everything and nothing works. So he prescribes six months of antibiotics and the doseage is stronger than what they were giving me for LYME DISEASE!
I just had to share this story here because I know how frustrating it is to get help and the correct treatment.
I hope you all continue to get better! Corinne

glad to hear you are feeling better.
frustrating the medical community will not heitate to prescibe abx for pimples but not for something as devasting as lyme! Typical Posted by AZURE WISH (Member # 804) on :
So glad things have gotten better for you.
It is horrible that it is so much easier to get abx for acne. I am greatful that there are a few drs willing to really treat us. Someday I hope there will be a whole lot more.

Glad you're symptom free.!!!
What did the dermatologist prescribe? And what dose?
Usually for acne it's 50 to 100 mg of either Doxy or Mino. Barb

Here's an idea!
If you're having trouble getting ABX prescribed, you can try mixing some dirt with oil and rubbing it on your skin. Maybe if you do this regularly and only rinse with water, no soap, you can get a dermatologist to write a Rx?
Of course, if anyone figures out what you're doing, you can probably guarantee a visit to the psych ward.
Just a thought Posted by AliG (Member # 9734) on :
It would be pretty funny, if all the mistreated, misdiagnosed Lymies started doing this and they realized there was an epidemic of incurable adult acne. Then they'd probably shut down the Tx of acne with ABX.
I think I have an overactive imagination and a really strange sense of humor sometimes. I think I get weird when my headaches get bad. (I have one coming on now.)
Sorry, if I offended anyone. I just think this is really pathetic that acne gets treated and diseases that destroy your brain do not! Posted by corinne (Member # 7694) on :
He put me on Bactrim and has me taking 100mg twice a day. I just remember pleading with my ID Dr. for a prolonged period of treatment and he was so concerned about the long term affects. Then when I asked my Dermatologist about it he said that there is no proof that there are long term affects with antibiotic treatment.
It is just amazing to me the resistence that comes with trying to treat Lyme Disease. Granted I was int he early stages but if I had followed the advice of my ID Dr. I would be in very bad shape right now. He kept telling me to try and not stress about it.
After being treated correctly my syptoms were gone within a month or two and knock on wood have not returned. I am very thankful to this message board for that. I did not post a lot here but I read EVERYTHING!
Thanks again everyone! Corinne

Hi Corinne glad you feel better!!!!
1st post you said: So he prescribes six months of antibiotics and the doseage is stronger than what they were giving me for LYME DISEASE!
2nd post you said :He put me on Bactrim and has me taking 100mg twice a day. Then when I asked my Dermatologist about it he said that there is no proof that there are long term affects with antibiotic treatment.
Did you get treated with abx for lyme what was your dose?
I dont understand ? Was the lyme Dr treating with lower dose ?Than 100mgs 2x a day? Or Was the Lyme treatment not long enough?
Because if the dose for acne 100mgs 2 x a day is higher than the dose the first Dr gave you your very lucky to be lyme free.

I have good skin so I guess I'd be out of luck taking the dermatologist route. I could try the dirt rub if I really needed to. Sometimes you have to work around the system.
