I recently was tested for peak and trough levels of amoxicillin- one blood test was just before my dose of 1 gram orally, the other an hour and half after...
( I take 1 gram 4 times a day )
BOTH we extremely low!- 0.6 and 0.9 levels are supposed to be much higher ( more like 3-6 U believe)
An injectable I am taking for something unrelated to lyme ( that I was not taking at the time of the other tests) also showed lower than normal levels...
Is this is sign of a bad liver? Highly functioning kidneys? Sluggish Blood?
Dr has suggested adding probenicid ( which makes sense)
BUT I would like to know WHY my body is doing this?

Perhaps it could be an amino acid deficiency? Amino acids are needed to digest food and asborb nutrients. Maybe they are needed to absorb medications as well.
Also, do you make sure to not take any minerals within 2 hours either way of your abx?

I will watch what I eat and supplements around med-time- Thanks- I had thought that it was mostly Doxy that this was an issue with....
Marnie has an interesting post up about liver function tests that I will look into as well-
For the meantime will try testing peak and trough with a lower dose, taken more frequently
and take 1.5g through the night so I can get some sleep...
