Until recently, I had not heard of heparin as a treatment for Babesia. I had heard of and been using it for hypercoagulation, but a relatively new thought is that it is also effective against Babesia. Something to consider when talking with your practitioner.

I am on Heparin with my rocephin. Am getting 101 fever in PM and during day sweating through my clothes. I think its the heparin working on babs.
I asked my LLMD's assistant about heparin working on babs but he didn't seem to know.

My son (age 20) was on Lovenox (40 mg 2/day) for 7 months. He does/did have hypercoagulation. He has not had any extreme sweating since Lovenox.
My other son (16) is starting sublingual heparin next week.
Jellybelly - did you do nasal heparin? I asked my son's hematologist and his LLMD and neither would prescribe it. His LLMD is prescribing sublingual heparin. The LLMD said nasal heparin has not been discussed at any of the hypercoagulation conferences that he has been to.

Scott, I hope that Heparin does help with the treatment of Babesia. I've been on it I think for about 6 months. I'm on it for hypercoagulation, but it would be great if it got rid of Babesia too.
I seem to tolerate the Heparin just fine. Which is a plus for me since most meds make me really sick, in even small amounts. It does seem to make me sweat though.

Hey Scott,
There has been some recent discussions here on Lymenet about heparin and babesia, etc.
my doc says that heparin does in fact act against the babesia, as well as helping with coagulation issues.
i have been sweating more at night since starting. feel like i'm wrapped in saran wrap.

I am excited about the Heparin. Other than the bruising at the injection sites, it seems to be well tolerated, may have anti-Babesia qualities, helps with hypercoagulation, etc.
I think that I have felt improvement since having done the Heparin and the Alinia (28 days 1000mg twice daily). Alinia is a very difficult drug and was for me as well. So I do not suggest people run into it lightly, but talk with your doctor and see if it might be something worth more consideration.

I want to update my earlier heparin experience to 102 fever, sweating through clothes and then whole body shaking from cold. This has been going on for two days.
My doc's office (receptionist) just called me back and they want me to go off for a few days to reboot and then start up roceph at 1/2 dose for 2 days then work up again.
I ran the heparin getting the babesia by her and she thought it was a very intersting possibility. She had forgotten about the heparin babesia connection.
I think I will start back at a lower dosage of heparin as well. I am at work now, have bounced back, temp is almost normal, but I was still sweating when I started on my first patient (acupuncture). She said "Oh my God, it looks like you have malaria!"
I have stopped sweating and fever and all and feel great now. It has been 27 hours since my last dose.
