Hey folks,

My five year old has just started school, and is having exacerbated sleep disorder. She has been off abx for 2 years (was very sick as a baby) - on immune building natural protocols -

-- sleep disorder was a big Lyme symptom, and got worse this summer (nothing else going on yet) and insomnia is much worse since starting school (obvious stress factor there, since our disctrict has the K's going 6 hours a day - another topic I do not agree with...the public school system is not in my favor at all of late, for many reasons)

In any event - what have you used that has been an effective sleep aide for small children?

Mg? Homeopathics?

I've tried homeopathic Chamomilla and Passiflora - with no relief. Any input on dosages or time-frames?

Bach Flower remedies? (I have Aspen, Rock Rose and Mimilus - input on dosage - homeopathic dilution, or neat -- and time frame?)

You always have to watch out for relapse triggers. She has had this for some time and needs good sleep.

Thanks muchly,

Mo

Poor baby!

Shot in the dark, maybe..

But my daughter just got diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension.

The dr mentioned,"you want to sleep during the day, but you can't sleep at night..."

He is a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in OSH.

I did not suspect my daughter had OSH because she didn't have any one dramatic symptom that we recognized.

I was very surprised to learn that sleep can be disrupted with blood pressure problems. The dr said a child can be pretty much over the lyme but still suffering from an ailment caused by the lyme. just passing that nugget on.

Also, we have recently begun wking with a psychologist who teaches self-hypnosis. She has helped many children overcome IBS! It is incredible. My daughter is enjoying improved digestion and less pain after just a few sessions. We will address sleep at some pt and I can keep you posted.

Great thing here is child is taught a coping technique and you are not looking at a large number of regular visits.

Also, the psychologist mentioned that often we develope difficulties secondary to lyme because of the stress of the illness. Wonder if she is compenstating to keep up during day to pt it is causing problem at night.

She will be in my thoughts. What a cute age!

Mo-

What about Biofeedback? I know there are machines (SCIO/QXCI) that also run treatments specific for the person. I recently was put in contact with a RN who treats Lyme using biofeedback, and her machine burns a cd using microcurrent which in turn is used to create a homepathic remedy specific for the person. It also tests your supplements in hand to see if they are indicated for you at that particular time.
I know my description is lame. Sorry. I have a hard time remembering and articulating info that is given to me so that is my remedial version of it. I would be more than happy to get more info for you. I have been meaning to start a thread on it to get some input, but I forgot the name of the machine.

She is in Ohio if you would like her info. Her rates are fair. Been published several times on Womans holistic health, and speaks nationwide on the subject. Ok I'll stop babbling now. [Smile] Take care.

Have a good look at the health of the school building!

We spent the last three days at a Klinghardt ART II seminar and the "sick building" was brought up several times by parents. The major recommendation was "get active as parents". Besides of course the many different detox methods for children, and all of those affected by ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders).

I have many clinical tips in front of me and I will post them as I have time. Here is some "Clinical Tips for Parents" re magnesium deficiency (even if high dose is given) (list by Sid Baker MD):

Muscle cramps and twitches (can also be copper deficiency! if Mag fails, try homeopathic cuprum met 12X several times/day: You have used too much much zinc and depleted the copper stores)

Constipation

Lump in throat

Sensitivity to loud noise and high pitched sounds

Cold hands and feet

Insomnia Try also homeopathic Valerian Heel) or Mag Phos 6X at bedtime)

Carbohydrate Cravings and intolerance (also chromium/vanadium - try herbal extract of Gymnema)

Numbness and tingling[/B

[B]Cannot take deep breath

I will post the Valerianaheel in my next post.

Mo,

I can't believe she is 5!

Have you considered Melatonin? My husband takes Melatonin and it works really well for him.

Hi Mo. Make sure she's not getting vaccinations.

I'm going to try california poppy, I'll let you know if it helps me sleep. It has a good reputation and there is a company that wildcrafts it and puts it in tincture form. Eclectic Institute also makes a very nice herbal sleep tincture (it has passionflower, valerian and others). I am sensitive to valerian so don't like it that much but it is quite effective.

Mo,

I've got to ditto TuTu and pab here. I can't believe your "baby" is five already! She is growing up so fast.

Does she seem to like school? Or does she seem stressed out by it?

Do they still have Kindergardeners nap during the school day?

Melatonin worked great for my kids as teens, I have no idea as to younger ones. Hope we can find some answers for you.

Hi!

Try a dark room, no flashing lights etc, and a regular sleep schedule. Melatonin might help, liquid benadryl is great for kids too.

Hi Mo,

My LLMD recommended any of the following for my child's insomnia issues:

melatonin, L-tryptophan, valerian root extract, evening primrose oil, or Benadryl

Sweet dreams!

Thanks for all the replies. It's such a nice feeling that so many of the old-timers rememer this baby's plight.

The school building - I have pondered this and believe (in addition to the stress of starting Kindergarten emotionally) - it is a considerable factor. Environmental conditions in light and sound and activity they are not used to at all.
Even in as much as the florescent lights alone.
I have even placed energy 'balancers' in the building, which I believe have helped to a degree. Call me a renegade energy health special agent. [Cool]

Biofeedback is very interesting for the young, I have to research it.

GiGi - thank you very much for the homeopathic resources - many of which are not the 'norm' in homeopathics - a wealth of options for us to try there.
Sincere thanks - as she is with a homepath as her MD now, and responds very well to what he gives her, but the sleep problem has us stumped. Your list has several options we have not looked at.

I also was instinctually drawn to Mg balance in her. Thanks for the tips on that as well.

Melatonin has worked for the initial sleep - but she wakes later in the night with that. I did not use it much, also, because it is not so safe or effective for the young ones. I tried it in desperation - and she fell asleep quickly - only to wake three times later those nights.

...so, it seems her issues go deeper than that can reach.

Snowflake - L Triptophan : is OK for young ones ?, and does it wear off as Melatonin does (or can)?

I need to get to the (her) cause, but in the meantime.............

Oxy babe -- I hear you, I have stopped all vaccines post-Lyme. Unfortunaltey, they give an onslaught of them before they are ten months old... and I did not know better prior to then.
I wish I had known more when she was an infant.

For stress related to school, Bach Flower remedies (the ones mentioned above) seem to have definately helped with 'fears' - but have not resolved the sleep issues.

Did you change sleeping location?

Geopathically Disturbed Sleeping Loaction and Electrosmog

Diagnosis:
Best: have home tested by
Building Biology trained expert
Inspection by local electrician (it is rare to find a US-trained electrician who understands electrosmog)
Use Heart Rate Variability: mesure child (or any healthy person) in neutral area of home. Repeat measurements in bed. If stress level increases (it often does), move bed to undistrubed area
Contact experienced local dowser
Learn the basics and test your own home (www.neuraltherapy.com)
ART testing

Treatment:
Move child's sleeping location (till you find a place where child wakes up refreshed)
"Demand Switch" or disconnect fuses for every outlet in child's bedroom walls
Buy corded phones for home or disconnected cordless phone at bedtime
No wireless internet
Inspect neighborhood for cellphone microwave emitters
Anti-electrosmog mosquito net (silver coated cloth)
Sleeping on silver coated bedsheet with or without grounding
Move if needed
