Hello,

I would like to know if there is anyone out in lyme-world that does their own intravenous therapy????

I am very interested in learning how to do my own IV's and need some ideas as to where I can go to learn how to do this myself.

I live in the Vancouver, Vancouver Island area.

thank you for any ideas or suggestions.

Hmmm I'm not sure what you mean by doing your own?

I did my own back in the days in the way of - first being set up by a nurse and then I hooked myself up everyday as prescribed, she did inhome visits 2 times a week - to change dressings and such.

sorry I didn't define very well what I meant.

I don't have anyone here to do IV therapy and I am looking to learn how to do it myself, the entire procedure.

thanks

Yes I have been doing my own I.V.s under a doctors care because my insurance stopped paying for a home health company and I was forced to do it this way. It is very simple once you get used to it. You can order the drugs through any pharmacy as well as the sterile water(used to dilute the drug)theI.V. bags, the flushes, the syringes and the needles. The I.V. lines can be ordered through a medical supply company along with dressing change kits and just about anything else you may need. You may need a prescription for many of these items.
Once you get all of this you mix the drug according to the instructions that come with the drug. Next you must put aside a place in your home where you do the mixing and it should be as clean as possible because mixing the drug requires sterility to avoid infection. Also make sure it is far away from household traffic so no one else touches anything.
Doing your own I.V.s saves money and is very convenient because you don't have to deal with Home health care agencies that many times forget to give you all of your supplies or in my case used a bag that had particles floating in it. Any further questions send me a PM.

I know a few people that do their own. QMedRX is one of the places that I have seen that can help coordinate, supply you with everything, etc.
