Background: I have been feeling sorta ok for a while on Buhner's Protocol.
About a month ago my R knee started to hurt. My Lyme is generally R-sided. I have had knee problems on the L, pre-lyme.
So anyway, I had exercised on some equipment that was less than well-made and the stride was kinda off ..... felt a bit of knee irritation atthat point.
A few days after that, I jumped on a trampoline with a little kid. Good news is: I felt good enough to do this! Less-than-good-news is about a day after my R knee really started to increase in pain.
I of course ignored it and now I can't walk with out crutches. I have an ortho appt nest week.
I have taken ibuprofen at 600 to 800 mgs. I can have a few hours of lessend (but not gone) pain.
So, is this lyme or an injury. I was thinking that since ibuprofen helps it s just an ijusry and that if it were lyme the ibuprofen wouldn't lessen the pain at all. Ibuprofen never worked on any Lyme pain for me.
So what ya think?? Who here has dealt with significant knee pain/injury. I am afraid the ortho doc is gonna wana cut because that is what they do best. My mom always says: want surgery? go to a surgeon. Well, I don't want surgery but all ortho's are surgeons.
So what's my point? I don't know ......... just looking fo some shared experiences and advice...........

advil never helped my lyme pain either but that is coz it was NERVE pain....is this nerve pain?
can you describe it?
One thing to remember at the doc, I know you know---NO STEROIDS!!! those docs are steroid trigger happy. dont be fooled or convinced.
You might not mention lyme coz if they are a duck then it will suck, and if they arent then they will blame everything on it and you wont get relief that way either. You can eventually tell them about lyme....by why right away? make em work hard to figure out what is going on for you.
But I gotta tell ya,....they hardly do dang thing without imaging and I know you are leary of that.
I am soo sossosososososossssssooooooo upset to hear this is happening, I just wanna take it away. good luck my friend! trails

Robi, I've had knee problems since I was 16 in a basketball game, running for a loose ball on the court, and my knee gave out. "pulleg ligaments".
I'd excercise, etc. but then reinjure it. MY KNEE WENT OUT MORE THAN I DID! lol
It would go out on me playing softball sliding into bases, when playing volleyball when just moving around, etc.
I'd have FLUID removed from my knee each time it was reinjured! so painful being twice the size it should be.
Never had shots or surgery. I quit playing ADULT softball when I was 26; helped tremendously.
I'm super careful, and that is my leg I can't cross or lift anymore. My left groin/thigh area hurts like the devil; pure pain as if I'd just had surgery every time I get UP/DOWN!
Best wishes to you! My cane is my support now taking off some of the weight I'd put on this knee. Bettyg Posted by lymie tony z (Member # 5130) on :
Robi Robi Robi, don't you ever watch "Americas Funniest Videos"
NOTHING good ever comes from jumping on a trampoline! LOL
The reason the ibuprofen works is because it's an anti-inflammatory...brings down the inflammation around the nerve in your knee taking off the pressure on it and alleviation the pain.
Yes, it's probably an injury.
But be mindful that the knee's are very susceptable to being infiltrated by mr.BB...
You should also be able to use ICE to bring down the swelling and alliviate your pain...if it is an injury.
Good luck......zman

If its just lyme keep treating but if its lyme and injury which is possible exercize is good but not the jarring of the joint try walking on unlevel ground as in old dirt roads trails etc. Before you exercize it warm it up heat and stretching then when done exercize ice ice ice . That will also bring any inside swelling down the way could always tell mine was swollen inside was it gets tight when trying to bend it.
If you dont want to walk go to the ymca and use a stationary bicycle.
ps ibuprohen helps.

It's a good idea to go to the ortho and find out if it is an injury. It could always be a very slight injury that has intensified pain because of the Lyme.
As far as surgery, you don't have to agree to any surgery if it is recommended. You can get a diagnosis and go back home and research it. Find out what prospets are for healing.
I also believe in waiting on surgery. I had an ortho want to do surgery on my ankle. I didn't because I had no use of my hands at the time, so couldn't be on crutches for 2 weeks. The pain eventually just went away.
You can also talk about physical therapy to help strengthen the knee. That's something ortho's usually support.

Thanks ya'll..... yeah tony i knew th trampoline wasn't a great idea, but it was soooooooooooo much fun. And the 10 ear old I was jumpingwit was so hapy to have an adult on the trampoine with her.
So i went to PCP today ... his guess is LCL or meniscus or both. MRI tomorrow ...no contrast .... no xray so I am prety happy about that trails.
Then, ortho guy on tuesday and I can show up with my films ......... hopefull we can ge this under control soon. All the sitting around is making me FAT!!! I used to sit around 1/2 the time now it is alllllll the time!!! YIKES!!!
Ibuprofen is working ......... last night i awoke in the middle of the night ............ hurt so bad I was crying .......... took 1000 mg ibuprofen and pain subsided.
Thnaks for a the thoughts. I'll keep ya'll posted.
Hey trails wanna go hikingin NM sometime??? Ya think we will ever be able to lie do the La Luz in 3 hours or less? It's 8 miles uphill .... climbs 3,000 plus feet ...... then we can ride the tram down. How about next spring???

p.s. the knee is better -- used some herb packs on it --- but can not run any more Posted by lymie tony z (Member # 5130) on :
I DON'T want to offend anyone...
But this knee thing and lyme is like remedial lyme knowledge to me...
The bacteria like to attack previously traumatized parts of the body...
The knee of any human is THE most traumatized part.
Believe me I know....I now have the bilateral prosthetic knees to prove it...
Both times the orthos replaced them...one in Ohio and one in Florida...there remarks were the same...
"that's the worst knee I ever worked on"!
I believe that is because BB had been in there doing it's munching on my cartilage, ligaments, tendons and bone....
Someone else I read on here had their doctor tell them the same comment about her/his knee when the ortho opened them up....
Of course the ortho's never want to hear about lyme infection as the cause...
Their comments are "I just do knees" I don't know or care about the "other stuff your talking about"....which of course is lyme infection.
Lyme Arthritis......
If they DID care...and the infection were prevented...gee...they would'nt have any knees to cut on.....there goes their house in the good section of town.......

I would bet my last dollar that number one problem is heavy metals; number two problem the invasion of the microbes; number three problem don't do trampoline unless you are in top super physical shape.
Number one do heavy metal clearing; number two continue your microbial clearing; number three -- the best for people who are not quite well yet is walking at the best pace possible.
My husband had the knee thing just like that. It was also swelling. He did what I recitet above plus bee venom and neural therapy to the knee (by a good neural therapist).
He has never had a problem in several years. But if you ignore the metals, you will only either keep them there or move them somewhere else in the body where they cause other symptoms.
I always had a knee thing here and there - blamed it on sugar, blamed it on something else. I cleared out what should never have been there in the first place. Metals and microbes. I don't even know my leg works with a knee joint. And I am a few years ahead of you in the aging process.
Remember the bugs always go where the metals have "contaminated" the matrix - that's what anaerobes love -- they can live happily there forever if you let them.
Take care.

robi--I'd rather go surfing, and with your knee like you might like it more too!
I cant even take on a challenge like that--it is doomed to make me feel awful if I can not attain it. I am just happy peeing in the bath!
But I will meet you in NM and we can pig out on green chiles! (btw mine get shipped to me this weekend!)
I am so sorry this has come up for you. It sounds so painful and awful! thinking of you, trails

Trails, next you'll be telling us you pee in the surf....
As for me, I LOVE the trampoline, if it's not too tight. But I agree with tony -- knees are notorious for getting lymey, so even if it IS just an injury, take good care of it.
Wow, tony, the bionic man....

Yes, yes of course I know about knees and Lyme ..... no offense taken but geeeeeeez Tony .......... I wasn't bitten yesterday! (That's kinda like the Lymie version of "I wasn't born yesterday." Get it?
Ok, so yes, I know the Lyme will have a party down there now that there is an injury ...... and that they may have been partying there before the injury.
But we have to keep in mind that Lyme is NOT the primary problem in all of our illnesses/injuries.
This could be injury first, Lyme second. OH wait! I got it! It is Lyme. My neurolyme screwed up my thinking and I got on the trampoline. That is the REAL issue.......... It is neurolyme manifesting in my knee!!!!!!!!! OK just jokin'
If anything I would have to go with Gigi (whom btw is just amazing IMO) and agre that if there is a "root" to all of this, it is metals (maybe mixed in with crappy genes.)
Wow I thnk I have forgotten my oroginal response...
Well anyway ........... thanks for the ideas and the support. Yes Tony, even you

Robi, Sorry if I offended your sense and sensabilities or knowledge of lyme disease...and thanks for the recognition...
So if heavy metals is a problem I guess I'm doomed cuz both my knees are heavy metal....
AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH And to think I loved Black Sabbath,Whitesnake and other Heavy metal bands....
What a dissapointment! LOL.........zman

Ok here are the results. It is a bone bruise ....... never heard of this. I don't remember getting hit in the knee..........
Anyone have experience with this? They say it can take onths to heal and be very painful.

Robi, I have bruised bones.
Mostly small ones like on the bottom of my foot from stepping on a stone barefoot. A few others, shins, etc. but not a knee.
Yeah, they do take longer then regular bruises to heal.
Weeks for the bottom of the feet ones, would have to go to wearing shoes for a while.
I don't know what to expect with a knee. I hope it heals faster than they expect and I do wonder how the heck you did that.
What did they recommend you do in the meantime? Rest it? Ouch! it sure sounds painful, though. Sorry.

Robi,
One of the first things I noticed going wrong with my health was atruamatic non-exertional L. knee discomfort.Eventually went on to full blown motor neuron disease before we found the Lyme.
Take care and be well. Travlr1

Yo Robi,
Yeah...bruised bones really hurt for a long time... Baseball,Football and ESPECIALLY Basketball players get lots of bruised bones.
You could easily have injured yourself on that trampoline by jamming the bones together squishing the protective meniscus.
