Has anyone here had a skin biopsy done by either a dermatologist and/or neurologist? If so, I was wondering what each of them was looking for and what they found (or didn't find).

I have had one done by a dermatologist and now one done by a neurologist and was just wondering about other people's experiences.

Thanks!

I had three little acne like inflamations taken off of my back and sent away. Since I tend to get an initially rather serious acne like rash when I go on Zithromax, we were trying to see if it was a herx reaction, lyme reaction, or allergy.

We tested them for PCR Babesia, PCR Lyme, and a general battery of tests one does on a skin biopsy. Also, we ran a silver stain, which makes any spirochetes visible.

all the PCRs came back negative, as did the silverstain. The normal tests indicated it was some kind of folliculitus and didn't find anything outside of the norm for that.

I had 2 different biopsies done on my calves because I had rashes there ( not bulls-eye rashes). The first one came back as granuloma anularae, and the dermo asked for it so he could read the slide himself, and he diagnosed it as vasculitis....same as 2nd biopsy.

If you need more info on the rashes themselves, let me know. BTW, this was the beginning of how I was diagnosed as having Chronic Lyme.
