I don't think he has a protocol,persay. He is willing to work with you to determine what is best for you. He holds some beliefs about what should and does work based on research.
I will share what we are doing--- My husband is MS dx'd for two 1/2 years.We found out about Dr. Wheldon's regimin developed thru the work by Dr. Stratton at Vanderbilt. They treat Chlamydia Pneumoniae and have some compelling research regarding this bug and MS. My husband started on doxy/zith with flagyl pulses in Jan 2006. For eight months we self treated with herxes and improvement.
All along I told others of this doc in Ct because he seemed very knowledgeable with regard to an infectious cause to MS. Finally, we took our own advise and made an appt.with him. NOT SORRY at all. He is awesome and very smart/easy to work with. Under the docs care we have increased the doxy to 400mgs per day and increased the zith to 250mgs per day working up to 500 per day. The plan is to work toward the addition of Tini for (I think)at least 14 days at a time. That's where we are right now.
As far as insurance goes, the office provides a paid invoice which we then used to file with our insurance company ourselves. We have BC/BS and it is a traditional plan (we choose docs,etc.)We were reimbused the 80% which is standard for our plan. So I guess the answer is NO on insurance but depending on your plan it can still work.
I think someone else recommended his DVD on Lyme and MS. I ordered it and it is quite good, however, one needs pretty much prior knowldege to make sense of it.

I saw Dr. P for almost a year. He is one of the more "conservative" llmd's as I have experienced them. By conservative, he embraces "first do no harm" and monitors the heck out of you to make sure the drugs are not adversely affecting you. He is also VERY easy to talk to, and NO "doctor ego," and knows everything about lyme. You are doing the right thing with him.

HI vlser, i have been seeing dr P for 3 years now and he's great very easy to talk to, very intelligent and i have to agree with lymewreck that he is conservative with his treatments compared to other LLmd's out there. He doesn't use herbs, but he is open to it if you want to take herbs. I know some llmd's use herbs a lot, he's not one of them. And you have to pay out of pocket to see him, hopefully you have insurance that will reimburse a % for you. good luck.

cindy, tini is Tinidazole, it is an anti-parasitic drug
