Hi all
I am new to this site and I have been sick for about 6 years, not knowing what was wrong, told by varing professional: depression (yeh, I was tired allllll the time who wouldn't be depressed?), just loose weight (yeh, I would exercise and be physically destroyed for days), eat better (yeh, I had a very healthy diet but they wouldn't believe me because I was over weight?!). My oldest daughter got a rash and was diagnosed positive from the lyme titer and I picked up the book "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner and I read it for her but found that that I had almost all of the symptoms. I have been doing his protocol for almost 4 weeks and have had an unusual side effect. I have lost my sense of taste for salt and sweet.

Have anyone had anything similar or is this possibly a Herx reaction?

I am so desperate to be better.

God bless
Kathy

The loss of taste function is common in Lyme Disease. I am not personally familiar with the book healing Lyme, but I assume it to be based upon alternative therapy.

Suprisingly, and this is a change from my previous position, I'm ok with alternative herbal therapies, provided there are substantial scientific underpinnings relating the the specific physically demonstrable effects of an herb or alternative therapy.

For example, if one were to say, take Vicks vapor rub and say something like, it must work for Lyme. Well, while that is not proven, the constituints of Vicks are well known antimicrobials with extrodinarily broad ranges of antimicrobial action. They are active IN VIVO against fungi, viruses, and several kinds of bacteria including spirochetes, however, they have never been directly tested against Borrelia.

The point is that any therapy, while perhaps not having direct science, should have a strong basis in science, even if only indirectly.
