what is the recommended dose of doxy for an adult? My friend was recently diagnosed and her PCP started her on 200mg/day. This seemed low to me...

Thanks!

Go to

Dr. B's 2005 guidelines. you may want to print it out for your friend to take to his doc

it mentions doxy dosage chapter 13

I am not a doctor but that dose sounds too low

according to most LLMds.

unless he is trying to start out slow and ramp up soon?

Hey Dana,
I just wanted to thank you for that very sensible answer. I think that too many times in the past here, we have jumped all over patients who inquire as to dosage amounts, without really knowing the entire picture of their health and physician plan.

We are now finding as a whole that dosage is so individualized...and I do think the good Doc B would agree on that as well. Remember, his guidelines are just that- guide-lines.

We have to hope that the physician in charge is LL, and has a purpose to his/her plan. And until we find out otherwise, I do think it is important to NOT throw stones too soon. So, I thank you for that.

Hey Bluetick,
I am pleased that your friend is at least beginning treatment. That is a huge plus. We just need make sure that his/her protocol is adapted to his/her illness.

I remember so well, MY first med given for this, it too was Doxy 100mg bid. I also remember all to well, the way I felt 48 hours after that first dose! It floored me, and I knew I was in for a rough road right then and there.

See, I had done a bit of reading prior to that med, and I also KNEW that 200mg was low based on what I had already read...

BUT, my body was telling me different.

IF I had of began on any more at that time, I think I would have made the third trip back to the ER that week.

So, what I am trying to get at here is that we are all individual in how we respond to any given med. And no one can predict, not even our best LLMDs, HOW we will respond prior to taking the med.

So, many are now beginning patients at lower doses just to see what that response will be BEFORE upping the meds at a later date.

My best to you and your friend,
Melanie
