I am reading comments about masses and cysts and wonder if the "fatty tumors" removed from my scalp

before my shoulder replacement were something other than "fatty tumors". The shoulder had a

grape sized tumor embedded deep in the shoulder
muscle. Another one removed from above the left

ear looked like chicken fat. That one was not
totally removed and is now somewhat painful with

pressure and seems to have grown down toward the
base of the skull. The surgeon had a difficult

time with that one.

Is this what is meant by masses and cysts?

I will take a shot at this.

A cyst is a capsule filled with a fluid of some sort. A mass is a solid object, perhaps made of different tissue but solid none the less.

The fat tumor you are refereing to are called lipoma's (any thing with OMA in it means growth), the lip is suspect is the desciption of fat - a lipid.

There are some very interesting very rare diseases in which lipoma's occur along the nerve tracks on the body. The cause is unknown but the diesease (the name escapses me) is related to neurological problems and progressive heart problems. To my knowledge, nodoby has every looked at infecious origin of this disease, many because they are so rare.

The Above metioned disease is rare. Many people get lipoma's. From the surface it is difficult to distinguish then from cysts unless a needle aspiration OR a ultrasound study is done.

Hope that helps.

I've met several people with Lyme who have lipomas. I would really like to know what the science is on lipomas. I don't think there is any, and there needs to be.

I am only guessing here. My guess is that the DNA of fat cells is damaged by the Bb, so they replicate out of control.

I have been drinking mangosteen juice for about a month now in an attempt to reduce my lipomas. So far, every lump except for the oldest largest one is softening and lessening, and the pain around them has diminished somewhat.
