I just got my big bag of Raintree sarsaparilla powder as I'm gearing up for Buhner's. Was wondering if I should freeze? refrigerate? it? Or is it okay at room temperature, long term. Seems like it'll take me awhile to use all that up.
thanks!

Hi May
If you can its best to ask your Doc about this- here's some past discussion on sarsaparilla:

Make sure you keep the bag sealed. I refrigerate MOST of my bags of powder now. You didn't say if it was powder or C/S. I would referate it to be safe as I doubt if Raintree would adulterate it with preservatives as some companies do with their herbs. I don't use Raintree any more, but it is good. Hi all--I'm just about to start Buhner's protocol and was wondering how you guys are doing on it...? Any suggestions/warnings?

Thanks!
I emailed raintree before JimBob's response. They replied quite quickly:
"As long as it is kept dry and out of the direct sunlight this powder should be fine. Getting it wet can be a problem with mildew and mold. Freezing may alter the plant chemicals or cause some moisture."
From their website-- Ingredients: 100% pure sarsaparilla root (Smilax officinalis) . No binders, fillers or additives are used. This product is non-irradiated and non-fumigated. It is a wild harvested product--grown naturally in the Brazilian Amazon without any pesticides or fertilizers.
Thanks, JimBob. Oh no! I'm showing my ignorance because I dont' know what C/S is. I read previous posts and got the the 1lb bag of Sarsaparilla powder from Raintree because that's what other people said they were using. I don't have a capsule machine, so I hope it's okay to drink in a tea. Tried a little today and it didn't taste gross. What brand do you use now?
Ashleygait--I'm starting on red root and sarsaparilla first. I think JimBob recommended that somewhere... Planning to start real slow. Good luck! Let me know how it goes for you.

I found my Cat's Claw smell bad after stored at ambient temperature for a while (one month or so).
Now I freeze all my herb after I open them.
Micro-organisms(bacteria, fungi) grow at 4 C degree, but not at -20 C degree.
That way you don't worry whether your medicine or herbs would expire.
Even for ABX, if you don't use them soon, it's better to store them in freezer.
They are more stable than at ambient temperature.

Thanks, Dave. Do you use capsules or buy bulk herbs?

I buy bulk herbs. I don't fill them in capsules. Rather, I use them directly. I use tea spoon for measurement. For some herbs, one TSP = 5 g. I still need to find out the conversion.
