A friend of mine was really starting to feel better on Minocin but developed extreme constipation, to the point of having to get a baby enema on top of stool softeners on top of fiber pills. She became absolutely exhausted from this, and developed hemmeroids (spelling?) She stopped the Minocin and has finally begun to "go" but it isn't easy. She's very disappointed to have to stop the Minocin if, in fact, it was the "constipation culprit." I told her I'd poke around on Lymenet etc. to see if others have had this problem with Minocin.

I pulse every month or so with minocycline...for about 1-2 weeks each pulse. No constipation.

Hi,
I'm on a large dose of minocin and am not having bowel problems at this point. I've been on it since May but just got up to a theraputic dose Sept. 5th. How long has she been on minocin?

You didn't mention if she was taking probiotics but I take large doses of probiotics, kefir and yogurt 2X per day, many hours away from abx. It is critical to maintain proper bowel flora in order to avoid bowel problems.

Magnesium is good for constipation and necessary for many reasons so hopefully she is taking a good dose.

i started to get constipated after 2 months of minocycline, even when eating very large quantities of vegetables evey day.

I accidentally found a solution that has worked for me- eating 1/4- 1/2 cup of ground flaxseed meal daily, mixed in with whatever else-- usually plain yoghurt or huumus.

Works great.

She's been on the Minocin for perhaps 2 months. Even though the constipation didn't begin right away, it's the only drug in her regimen that's new so she's doing a trial run without it now to see if her bowels go back to normal.

She does take probiotics and, I believe, a one-a-day type vitamin/mineral supplement that probably has magnesium in it.

I'm going to pass on your feedback to her and welcome any more. I know that part of my IBS, now in remission (fingers crossed), was this awful crippling constipation from time to time, so maybe this is what's happening too. Thanks.

I've been on Mino for almost two years. I do have constipation but only when I do not take enough acidophilus. When I take enough.... no problem.
