I'm having my daughter tested, but no results yet.
Question: She's scheduled to get her tonsils out soon. If she's positive, should she cancel? Thanks!

How old is she?? If she's in pretty good health, it might be good to go ahead and get them out.
I'm assuming that she needs to have them out as they are diseased?
If she has the surgery, ask them to send off some tissue to confirm for Lyme disease.

My LLMD had me get my tonsils checked before starting treatment. She has found that Lyme loves the tonsils and its harder to treat the Lyme if tonsils are inflamed because the Lyme hides there.
So it might be good to get them out. But I know some people are against all surgey with Lyme.

As a teen I had frequent strep infections and I now know I was already infected with Lyme at the time.
I never had mine out, but I did get a doozy of a strep infection about twelve years ago, which then turned into pneumonia for a month! Posted by tailz (Member # 10014) on :
Hey thanks! I wasn't sure if removing her tonsils would help or hurt the Lyme, as I'm sure she has Lyme in her tonsils (many strep infections), just as I'm sure it cost me an ovary and is messing with the remaining one.
I wasn't aware you could request Lyme tissue samples. This is awesome!

My son had sinus surgery ... and it did trigger a relapse... I believe the surgery stresses the immune system. But in the case of tonsilitis infected tonsils stress the immune system too!

I'm not sure what to do. Her doctor did bring to light that tonsils are merely lymphs which actually do serve a purpose. Without them, she has two less lymph nodes to fight disease.
Then again, if much of her Lyme is in her tonsils, it could be beneficial.
I'm not sure what the answer is now. There's an argument either way.

LD is not a good enough reason to remove tonsils.
Good reason is sleep apnea or chronic tonsilitis. If there is puss in them they don't work well anyway. If they obstract airways they have to go.
Make sure they won't give her any steroids during or after surgery. Actually they gave me some. Couldn't protest since was under general anesthesia. I was very upset by this incident but it didn't hurt me visibly after all.

I have been patiently wait to see this topic on the lyme board. I have had lyme 30+ years, and know I have passed it on to one daughter, she was breast fed.
She has all of the symptoms, but her insurance is not accepted, nor can she afford testing yet, anyway to tell an awful story out of this, and I do not in any way want to scare you or any one.
but my 2 year old granddaughter had tonsil problems since last december, and my daughter fought for months to have them removed, it was so bad her breath was stinking.
Ear nose and throat ducks bantered back and forth about the removal, my granddaughter by the way was a special needs child, well, they went ahead and pulled them out, and it turned into a botched tonsilectomy, and she did not make it out of the hospital.
I have been crushed since the 15th of october, and still cannot believe something this simple could happen.
But we are finding more out, althought the medical examiners paper work was just releast, and they are claiming she had MRSA also.
She went into the hospital healthy, other than she could not get her breathe, her tonsils were that huge, but the the ducks took chest x-rays and said pneumonia in right lobe, the next day, she had it in the left lobe, but within 3 days they did another x-ray and said no more pneumonia, and they proceeded to do the surgery.
This was such a nightmare for my daughter, and her family, I think it was pure neglect on the parts of all medical personnel who worked on her the week she was hospitalized.
I did call my LLMD to find out if lyme can settle in the tonsils, but haven't a reply yet. I have had the suspision my granddaughter may have had lyme also, because it may have been past on from her mother, and then of course from me.
SAy a prayer for my Destinee.

I had a bad case of mono (EBV) when I was twenty. After several months, I got somewhat better. Well enough to go back to school. However, I tired easily, the glands around my necks still ached and if I stayed out too late I was guaranteed to catch a cold. Two years later I was living in Mexico catching every form of Montezuma's revenge possible. A doctor friend examined me and told me my tonsils were bad. Nah, I told her, surely my U.S. doctors would have caught something as basic as that. A few months later back in the U.S. I got a full blown case of tonsillitis. After I recovered, I had my tonsils out. Night and day. I no longer felt sick all the time. I was normal again. If your daughters tonsils are bad and trapping bacteria, food particles and harboring microbes have them taken out.
