After initial AMAZING success with Doxy, 5 weeks ago I was changed to Biaxin and Amoxi + PPI due to a high titer on my IgG H.Pylori test. IgM, IgA negative. My biopsy from endo had been negative a few months earlier.
Dr. S felt it was important to address the H.P first, but was not 100% convinced I still had it due to my being able to tolerate the Doxy, apparently it is not normally tolerated if there is H.P. I tolerated it with few problems. However he wanted to be sure.
Its been all downhill since I changed to the H.Pylori protocol and I felt, although a Herx was a possibility ,that it seemed more like a slow step by step return of Lyme symptoms due to the meds not being as affective.
I was giving the meds time (Amoxi and Biaxin) because I know they are also good for Lyme, but now that a rash, which the doxy got rid of in 3 days, is reappearing I am alsmost sure the meds are not the best for me.
So I called my LLMD and he said retest H.Pylori. and if +ve ramp up a little the current protocol and if -ve go back to the Doxy and mentioned again that although maybe not as serious H.Pylori needs to be treated like a co-infection.
So I tested today in China for H.Pylori via a blood test. They were not able to do a IgM, IgG or IgA titer, just to be able to tell me if it was active or not.
It was positive and apparently active, according to my doctor here.
Given the history, and the amount of Amoxi + Clarithromycin we have thrown at it this even came as a big surprise to him.
There was only 2 explanations a - I have digested an extremely tough super form of H.P. b - H.Pylori does cross react with Bb
My docotor and I felt b was the most likely and I had a false positive test.
Which now leaves me in a quandry.....change back to the Doxy, stick to the current protocol.
I want to follow my LLMD, and he is absolutely one of the best, but I also feel he may be wrong on this one.....even the best are sometimes wrong!!!

Yep...H-Pylori is cross reactive with BB.
I had tested positive for H-pylori WAY before I ever had lyme symptoms. Was very symptomatic for h-pylori...ungoddley heartburn...reflux...
After h-pylori abx protocol...no more symptoms.
However I still test positive for it!
And BB.
Conclusion.....while I don't believe I have h-pylori due to no symptoms...
I know I am IGG and IGM positive for BB.
Which I have yet to get rid of with orals... You may want to either switch to Ketek... Or get an IV in ya....

In the mid 1800's there was talk about closing down the US Patent office, because there was nothing more to be invented. Hmmmm.... One thing about great minds is that they know that they don't know. So I say keep on questioning with that great mind.
Maybe certain LYME patients have had a better long term success being treated with a H.Pylori protocol until their 'cross reacting lyme' h.pylori+ goes down, then switch to another antibiotic.
We do know that different combainations of antibiotics and changing of antibiotics seems to help lyme patients. Hummmmm.....
