Hi all, I recently had a port put in last week, and today had my huber needle changed.

I took it out last nigt so that I could put emla cream on it before they put the new one in.

The emla cream didn't numb my skin AT ALL. Has anyone else had this problem?

Am I doing something wrong? Are there any other methods that might remove this huge pain from the needle?

Any help... thanks!

I'm not sure why it isn't working for you, perhaps it's the way in which you apply it? Here is a link on the proper way to apply the cream, etc.

Emla

Hope this is helpful.

Are you leaving a thick covering of it on for at least an hour before you need to change the needle? Also covering the Emla with a clear occlusive bandage is important too.

Good luck.

I use the Emla cream for my port, it helps alot.
You need to cover the cream with a Tegaderm bandage for about 1hr before access in the port.
Hope this helps because it is NO fun without the Emla cream [shake]
