Hi,
Someone asked about probiotics but since this is so important to everyone, I thought I'd make it its own thread. Here's an article about a bunch of probios that were tested and what was found:

The first two tested are SBO's, not straight probiotics. It seems that most companies performed very well. Please note that there can be 10-20% error in the results.

These tests were perfomed by Brian Sims, Deibel Laboratories, 103 S. Second Street, Madison, WI 53704, Tel. (608) 241-1177, Fax. (608) 241-2252.

Custom Probiotics or myself are not responsible in any way regarding these results.

If you want to verify any other probiotic supplement, please contact Deibel or any other lab that is experienced in probiotic testing.

In my opinion, the effectiveness of any probiotic supplement depends on the following: potency or probiotic count; number and type of strains; survivability through the acidic stomach and through the digestive system.

Another way of enhancing the effectiveness of probiotics is to use Prebiotics. I would not suggest using FOS since it is fructose based and can feed Candida. I would suggest instead taking 100% whey protein, with no lactose, sugar, carbohydrate or any flavor. Lactoferrin is another potent prebiotics. Whey and lactoferrin also enhance the immune system the lack of which is THE reason why we have Candida overgrowth in the first place. Whey protein and Lactoferrin are easy to digest and assimilate, and will feed our body cells for regenration. Our body consists of 55% water, 20% protein, 15% fat, 5% minerlas, 2% carbohydrates and 1% vitamins. Hence the importance of proteins, especially if you are on a vegetarian diet.

We will come up with Whey Protein and Lactoferrin in 10 days.

You can research info on lactoferrin and whey protein by going to Pub Med www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov:80 There is a lot of research and clinical studies on lactoferrin. Lactoferrin represents 10% of the protein in mother's milk and 1-2% in cows milk. It has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties; it prevents growth of pathogenic organisms in the gut; it stimulates the immune system, it controls cell or tissue damage, regulates iron binding and promotes growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestines.

Nothing in this document should be construed as medical advice.
I am just sharing the results of my personal experience in having candida overgrowth disorder.

I tried Custom Probiotics a year ago. My first order worked great, but the next 2 orders after that were dead. I should have demanded a refund, but I just stopped using their product. I don't trust any of them anymore as I am finding quite a bit of the different brands to be dead. I'm going to test them all for each new batch that I get until I feel confident in the consistent quality. This comes after a warning from a pharmacyst that a lot of the probiotics on the market are dead. He was right.

Micul,

I think you should call and speak to Harry. He seems like a reasonable guy, but more importantly he cares about his product. Maybe what you got was a bad batch or something.

I used to order probios from Natren. Natren consistently underfilled my bottles. I called them and told them. They replaced the ones that were missing. These things are so expensive ($1 per capsule).

I had a bottle of Custom Probiotics in my refrig for about a year. I just took four capsules out and used them to make yogurt. They worked great. They worked better than Yogurtmet.

My LLMD sells colostrum in his office. He doesn't "sell" many things, he has a small cabinet in the waiting room with a couple of items.

Somehow using cattle products doesn't seem safe. There are a lot of hormones injected into cattle. Wouldn't that come through the milk?

Is whey an animal product?

Sorry for my ignorance...I just never gave this thought, and would like to look into it.

Such an extensive study, and they did not compare the delivery effectiveness of enteric vs. non-enteric coated varieties?

Enteric coating helps survivability, that is, getting the good bacteria into the gut.

I wasted a lot of $ on non-enteric coated probiotics before discovering how much more beneficial the kind in enteric coated capsules was for me. YMMV
