Hi Lynn,
Hang in there! This seems to be a disease where we feel worse before we feel better, so you may just be at a difficult part of the healing process -- and better days ahead.
I think biomedical science and research is advancing faster than we know and there is alot of hope for us in the future. For now, I am sure we can fight these infections into submission/remission and lead a normal life.
Meantime, you need to see a real pulmonologist, not ducks! take good care.

Citrus,
Sleep problems are the pits. I have that too. I slept okay last night, but many of the nights are cut short or interrupted with many wake ups.
I am finding melatonin helps. I take much more than the 3 mgs suggested. I am now taking 40 and 50 mgs and it is helping. My pain is in my shoulders, which means I sleep okay at first, but the longer I lay on them, the worse they feel.
Pain pills don't cut it. So I started taking some NSAIDs I was given this summer. I THINK it's helping, but am almost afraid to say that. Everytime I say something like that, it comes back.
I would love to know the answer to your question. I got sick six months ago, got treatment in late August and am mostly okay now. It would be nice to think/know that I am over the hurdle now. Many with lyme think it never really goes away; it can lay dormant for years. The consensus there is that you need to continue to take real good care of yourself so you don't relapse.

Be careful with the NSAIDS, they wrecked my gut.
Eat more fruits and veggies (whole, not canned) than you do anything else. Make your meats lean and cut sugar out completely. Really! Sugar suppresses the immune system, feeds cancer cells, feeds yeast, wrecks the gut. Stay away from it. Don't eat fake food. Fake food is anything overly processed or worse still, invented in a laboratory. Eat foods that grew that way. Read, read, read about diet. It is critical.
Take probiotics to replace the good bacteria that is being killed off by the antibiotics.
I had terrible sleep habits for years but now I sleep 8 hrs straight (might wake up once in the night to pee, but fall right back to sleep)
Yeast comes with this disease and yeast causes poor ability to sleep. Clean up the yeast and you will sleep like a baby.
I too had shoulder pain, jaw pain, ear pain, elbow pain, hand and finger pain, knee pain, ankle, wrist and toe pain. The only joints not affected were the spine and hips. Pain would wake me up.
Once I changed my diet, the joint pain shrunk rapidly. Today, I only have some minor wrist, finger, ankle, toe pain that only occurs sometimes. Cold, wet weather brings it out and we seem to be having a wet fall this year.
Still I'm sleeping solid 8 hrs and going full charge during the day. I'm doing really well and the diet plays a major role in my healing process.
I know it can be tough to be disciplined, but once you get in the habit, you will feel so much better and be glad you did it.
