Hello group,
I have been on iv roceph twice daily for 11 days, along with valtrex 4x's daily.

A week after the Picc line I've started to experience dull aches on the left side of my chest. When I mentioned this to the doc he stated it was the meds working on the lyme.

Could it just be the Picc line or am I paranoid?
The doc did not seem concerned.

Forgive me for not putting the under the Roceph posts, too much brain fog, could'nt find it !

Thanxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We have had picclines before.

I think you should have it check out ASAP.

May be a herx in the surrounding muscle. But
you need to be looking out for

infection
or a possible blood clot
I am not a dr., maybe something else

Better safe than sorry-you are not a wimp.
We here have learned you really have to advocte for self and be pushy if necessary.

These picclines are a big help, but you don't want to mess around with any discomfort because it is a line into the heart.

Let us know.

Hi char,

Thank you,
The discomfort is not there all the time and it does not keep me up through the night. Maybe 4 or 5 times throughout the day.

I have no fever or trouble breathing. Because of the weekend (of course) I will call my doc tomorrow.

Check in with your physician. You did not mention if the line was inserted via left or right arm to see if it is line related. I would also examine the insertyion site for redness, swelling. Report anything abnormal to your doc in the am. Good luck!!!!

Hi iceskater,
PICC is inserted in rt arm. No swelling or redness.......Just a mild discomfort one in a while.

I have a port and am doing IV rocephin. I too started to have chest pain on left side after about the same period of time into my tx. Mine turned out not to be a problem with my port (I'm three months into the tx now and on and off have this sx). But of course you should check it out to be sure. I

did go back to my surgeon for reassurance. I offer my experience to ease your mind somewhat that someone else has had a similar experience. It is always importnat to be diligent tho! I encourage you to get all necessary reassurance that this is not a problem with your line.

What type of test do they perform to see if the line is OK ???? MRI, chest x-ray ????????

Sheri,
Was the picc inserted under flouroscope or a chest x-ray taken after placement?

(I may have missed if you've mentioned.) If not you could get a chest x-ray to check that it's placed correctly.

I have heard of people that need to have the line pulled back a fraction of an inch to avoid irritation.

Just a thought, if you hadn't. I'm not sure what other tests would be helpful.

I hope you get answers and feel better soon.

My friend had similar symptoms while on IV rocephin. Unfortunately it turned out to be gallstones.

I did have a chest x-ray after the line was inserted.
