My doctor has just increased my diocycline, which is a good thing because I feel so crappy at nite I know the buggers are dying.

However, with the holidays and work, I really am craving that Starbucks pick me up.

So what's so bad about a little caffiene on occasion?

And while we're at it--why no alcohol--it is verboten to even have one cocktail at a holiday party?

Hi CC:

I am with you on the caffeine part --

I could not live without two cups/day.
Mostly double espressos.

Probably does not do us too much harm,
I hope. The idea is that caffeine is
metabolized through the liver, and stresses
the liver. So, since we need the liver in top
shape to metabolize all the abx and other things
in our system, we should give up the coffee in
order to give our livers a break. NOT!

Have mostly given up alcohol -- also figure that
a few sips of a drink once a month won't kill me but will help my attitude.

But you cannot do this on Flagyl, I am only on amoxy and occasional zith.

Could interfere with the healing process... and who wants to be sick with this illness for one minute longer than necessary?

I'm on doxy too & I also have kept my 3 (big) cups of morning coffee going...so far no adverse effects. Can't imagine life without my am coffee [Frown] Did give up the afternoon one though.

I still have the occasional drink(s) as well-but try to justify it by cutting out all obvious sugar (and as many hidden sugars as I can detect) and most carbs other than oatmeal for breakfast to keep that doxy down without an upset stomach & a low carb wrap a few times a week- Thanksgiving was a different story!

Have been relying on the costly Theralac to do a superior job- So far...so good....Of course-our bodies all work differently-so what works for one, does not work for all..

Think my willpower only can handle a selective approach [Frown]

I second Cave76's conclusions ! I drink it every day, but use organic. I also splurge once a week with an expresso. I have read it is good for the brain. I also agree with Cave's observation about its healthy effects on gastro functioning!

Drinking? I dont. I wont. I tried a teaspoon of raspberry liquouer (sp?) once........sickk sickk sickkk ! I believe that is called negative conditioning?

I stopped drinking coffee because I have persistent nausea. But I keep drinking tea. I find it often makes me feel better, so I'm not giving it up.

And I have the occasional Diet Coke because it's the only thing that reduces my headaches. Vicodin hardly does anything for them. I'm not sure why, but caffeine and aspartame help.

As far as alcohol, I kept drinking some when starting treatment with the theory that I had Lyme since before I was drinking, so I might as well continue.

But I had a really bad week of vertigo. When I thought it was gone, I had a small glass of wine. I haven't touched alcohol since. I think my system just has enough toxins in it right now, I don't need to add.

Plus, I appear to have pancreatitis. And I don't want to chance killing myself by drinking with a sick pancreas.

Hi all:

As usual thanks for all the personal insights. I decided to go with moderation. I had a medium coffee yesterday and I was flying. I know it was fake energy, but it felt good anyway. I will save it for when I really need it, so as not to tax the ole liva.

As for the alcohol, its tough to space between the abx. My goal is to at least have some champagne at New Year's and to be able to go to the Jimmy Buffet concert this summer true parrothead style.
