I am a physiotherapy student in The Nertherlands and I am currently doing an affliation. I am currently treating a patient with Lyme Disease at the moment. Medical treatment has not worked very well with her as she already lost her arm, and leg and currently she has a bad infection in her eye for three moths already and the antibiotics have damaged the nerves in her right eye and she can not even open the eye. The doctors took her off antibiotics three month ago and it has just gone worse for her. She is in constant pain in joints and muscles, her tonis and her muscle tone is really very high. She is not able to see a Neurologist until the end of january as in Holland they do not concider her a urgent matter at the moment. Can someone advise me how to help this lovely lady as I feel she has been through enough. How could I change my PT to her to help with the painful muscles, I have tried heat therapy, massage, but there is no response to the treatment. If you can help me in any way I would really like to read your responses

HMMMMM I'm not sure I ever heard of anyone having Lyme disease and losing a limb over it and then to top it off the doc's take her off of meds - even tho she lost limbs from Lyme?
It doesn't make sense.
I mean that's pretty severe to say the least and I would think that losing a limb would be CAUSE to continue to treat!
Are you sure she has Lyme and only Lyme - if so what tells you that - a blood test ??? What?

Losing a limb doesn't sound very probable from lyme to me either, unless you have some unique strain of lyme in the Netherlands.
It also sounds odd to me that you, a medical student, would come to a chat board of sick laypeople for suggestions on how to treat.
My best advice is to seek out a lyme literate doctor to determine if lyme is her main issue. Sure sounds like something else to me and far beyond anything anyone on a chatboard could diagnose or treat.
Maybe someone here will speak up who has also lost limbs to lyme.

Yes, it sounds like paralysis or something neurological.
Maybe lymies closer to you can help to figure out how to get her treatment and maybe will know something about the physical therapy aspect. You are certainly a good therapist to be out searching for help for her.

Sounds to me like just a language-barrier glitch, probably omitting 'use of'.

Christian, I am just curious why you spelled "Netherlands" - Nertherlands.
Is it spelled differently in your country?
I've seen it both ways on the internet.
We spell Rome...instead of Roma.
If lyme -> late onset diabetes, the loss of a limb is not out of possiblity range.
Bb is PFK dependent. This enzyme is "rate limiting" for glycolysis. Insulin ACTIVATES this enzyme. Too much insulin ongoing = receptors poop out...become "resistant" = late onset diabetes.

Lou suggested what I was going to suggest: Netherlands lyme group and EUROLYME.
has she had a western blot igm and igg blood test done by either:
Igenex in California; MD labs in New Jersey; Bowen labs in Florida ???
If yes, please post the POSITIVE/IND numbers only on the board; NOT the negative numbers.
We are NOT DOCTORS; some nurses are members, so we can't give you advise that way.
We can give you our experiences and suggestions from a chronic lyme patient's viewpoint only.
