Hi. I wondered if anyone has taken cortef during their tx.? My new doc prescribed it for me today to take for a month, but since it is a steroid I am concerned. He stated he felt it would jump start my adrenals which may be getting in the way of me moving forward. Anyone ever done this? Thanks in advance!

Hi. I've been on cortef 10 mg in the morning and 5 mg at noon, given by my LLMD. It has really helped me have a lot more energy and I've accomplished a lot of things lately. It makes my mind feel sharper too.
On the down side, it can cause osteoporosis, weight gain and other undesireable side effects.
Before trying cortef, my LLMD tried the herbal approach, but the Licorice root and other herbs just didn't seem to do a thing.
It's a short term treatment. I am hoping that after further detoxing with chlorella, etc., that my adrenals may start working again.

Hubby took a total of 5 mg daily for about 4 years. 2mg at breakfast, 2mg at lunch and 1mg at supper.
When he started on this he was waking up in the mornings and he would pass out before he could get back to the bed from going to the bathroom. His adrenal function was the issue although tests didn't really reflect that.
LLMD actually wanted him on a higher dose, but it hyped him up -- he could even tell the difference between 4 and 5 mg.
Stopped this end of September and think pain issues are worse and maybe fatigue as well.
If you take this long-term you will also need to take low-dose Florinef to balance out your hormones.

I had no prob& was up to 30mgs per day.
My LLMD explained that low dose Cortef is used often as a replacement for the physiologic dose that the body should produce on its own.

I take 5 mg in the AM and again at noon. My levels on the saliva test were rock bottom. I've just completed a follow-up test to see where they are now.
I was on Florinef long before the Cortef and they are used for completely different things. I use Florinef to increase blood volume as part of my treatment or orthostatic intolerance.
I don't think that long-term use of Cortef is related to the need for Florinef (fludrocortisone). I could be wrong though.
