My doc has just put me on two orals and I wanted to see if anyone had experience with one or both?

Biaxin and Ceftin.

Is this a good combo?

Thanks so much.......! [bow]

Absolutely!! Biaxin got me out of the "gutter!" [Big Grin] I took Biaxin for a long time. It was the first drug to actually help me.

good luck!

They are medium-level antibiotics.

Ceftin can be a great drug. I took it while still dealing with co-infections, and don't know how well it would have worked if Lyme was the only problem. It did improve cognition. All the cephalosporins seem to be crucial to Lyme improvement, so if you've got one on board, that's a great start.

A lot of Lymenet people like biaxin, but I found it to be totally useless. The macrolide that really does it for me is ketek.

Pretty heavy duty.. but used a good bit.

Watch yeast... or actually do all you can to prevent it.

Watch for a herx.. especially at the one month mark.

If ANY side effects.. contact your doctor.

And...

FEEL BETTER SOON LITTLE BABOON!

Biaxin crushed me for brochitis, I had trouble getting through two weeks (or whatever brief period I was on it (pre Lyme Dx)).

My LLMD won't even try it. This makes me sad because I've heard it's worked well for so many.

I have no experience with Ceftin.

Good Luck! I hope it works well for you. [Big Grin]

Wahhhhhhhhh, Tincup called me a Baboon! [Eek!]

Actually, my doc did tell me to be sure to take acidopholous (however it is spelled!), eat yogurt, etc.

So glad to hear I'm on a good regimen!

Thanks all! [hi]

Hey tothepoorhouse
I have a different times been on both and they are both good meds, the majority of my LLMD treatment consisted of long term IV meds in combo with orals so during the tyme I was in a true LLMD care I was not on either of these but instead other macrodides at some points and IV ceplosporins but same idea.
Later treated my my local long standing lyme friendly MD for any general illness and lyme to some degree ,and she has had me on both of these for various reasons ,infections,or at my request and had good responses in both cases.

Before though ...I had a lot of IV /combined w/ oral treatment over the years and very little oral alone. But Ceftin is in the right family and I had no problem taking it recently and if anything helped. I did not herx really bad but system had become used to being overloaded w/ meds for a year and a half so it takes alot for me to qualify something as a serious herx.

Heck I went thru everything from months of seizures to temp. Paralized for several hours once, to suicidal urges, rage and severe neuro herxes, all likely herx related or lyme related while in serious treatment.

There are many combos of orals I still hope to try eventually, such as minocycline, There are a fe families of drugs I am allergic to mostly in the penicillian family - not cephosporins though. Amoxy after multiple uses that ere fine - I became severly anaphylactic to and Imipenim( primaxin) so I have to be careful about what I take now.

I would say you have it covered fine both are good families of drugs that are commonly use for lyme .Take care

Well, I've got to go back and read this thread again now to read the serious parts of it.

I was so enjoying the "baboon posts".....I lost all concentration.

Heehee.
