every year i have to spend time in rooms filled with christmas cookies. i try to resist, but it doesn't work.
i don't buy them or keep them at home (heaven forbid) but cannot avoid them at work because there are xerox machines i have to use in the same room.
for the past two days i have worn my tightest pants in the hope that would keep me honest. not.
i have spent months and months trying fairly successfully to go off of almost all sugar and watch my fat intake. now it's going up in smoke.
help!!!
any suggestions before all the spirochetes left hanging around in my bod decide to feast on this sugar and multiply.

The best advice I can come up with is to take some of the cookies (ones with chocolate only) and send them to me.
I'm sorry that's probably not any help. If you must succumb to the cookies calling try to just eat only one small one. Perhaps taking one you really don't like you might take a bite and throw it away.
Follow with a Probitoic chaser.

Here's what I do: I go to www.wholeapproach.com, click on the recipe section, find a cookie recipe that is sugar free, and bring them to work with you.
My xerox, desk, vault (I work in a bank) etc etc are covered in this kind of stuff at xmas and it IS hard. But if you give yourself a good alternative you won't feel so deprived...

Lymetoo, If I werent such a nice person, I would tell you I am an excellent GF baker and have at least 8 dozen GF cookies in my freezer.
I have been known to share with anyone who asks! OOPS-guess I'm not so nice. I give all my family and friends GF cookies and they love them.
Unfortunatly, I am horrible at my anti-yeast diet. Luckily, my Dr. has a hard time resisting, too! Diflucan is my friend,as well as Ultimate Flora.

I know exaclty how you feel hopeful. I get tempted by the Christmas goodies also.
I used to love to bake cookies, breads, pies etc. And now I look at my baking books and sigh, cuz I can't eat them.
I am going to bake Thomas some sugar free cut outs and gingerbread men this year though. It will be a first, so I hope it works out.
I did find a package of really good cookies in the health food store that was gluten free and very low in sugar, but it's too much of a temptation. And if I cheat I always end up paying.

My recommendation? Give yourself a break if you can handle it. I can! :-)
Bake them, share them, eat them! It's only one week out of the year. And it's a fun celebration of good food, good friends and good thoughts.
If we can't just let ourselves enjoy the holidays, we just become sad people who don't enjoy life!
I say go for it. There is always January 1st to start all over again. Forget about keets, think about treats and fun and enjoyment of life!
Me? I'd kill for a real butter tollhouse cookie and real butter/chocolate brownies. ...Hmmm, I may make some this week while I'm off work.

In my hubby's family I was known for bringing my famous fudge for Christmas gatherings. Since I have been sick and on a low sugar diet the past few years I have not made any. Fudge and peanut brittle would be impossible to make with sugar substitutes.
I miss my holiday baking sprees and sharing the goodies with neighbors and family. I think next week I might do a little baking if I feel up to it. Fudge will be the first thing so that if I poop out after at least I will have made that. I guess even if I cannot enjoy it, I can still enjoy making others happy with my holiday treats.

I agree with you tothepoorhouse, I think we should all give ourselves a break.
I tried baking cookies with less sugar, but they don't turn out. I can do it with cakes, cheese cake, pies, but not cookies. So I am really gonan try sugar free.
Does anyone have any good recipes they would like to share?
I miss baking too, maybe I'll trying baking some goodies and giving it away.

Bigmamma, I made fudge today! I even let myself lick the spoon. I had better give most of it away quickly before I eat a whole piece.
My family wont let me give it all away. Hope I dont wake up in the middle of the night tonight. Thats when I really have a hard time resisting temptation. One day we'll all eat fudge again! Hugs, Cindy

The only way for me to not eat the 2nd and the 3rd and the umpteenth is to NOT EAT THE FIRST! I'm no saint--dark chocolate--yeah, but cookies, no way. My ultimate cheat but still within the rules treat is Stax potato chips dipped in dark chocolate. Mmmmh. J

trader joes has great gluten free cookies--but they do have sugar.
they also have great dark and milk chocoloate bars that are sugar free and "essential carb free". sent some to some of my lymie buddies and they gobbled it down.

I think maybe we should set a date for beginning our seasonal probiotic ramping. It may already be too late for this year.
I really like to bake and don't dare. I have made brownies in the past, frozen most of them in sandwich bags as not to have them available and found myself waking in the middle of the night and eating a frozen one. Clearly I can't be trusted.

I used to bake shortbread -- as a small-scale business this time of year.
Last year, I was just too sick to bother, despite the requests of several dozen people. I did bake this Christmas, for family and close friends.
I had to put everything I baked into tins and get it out of the house; it was just too tempting having it here.
My thought would be to find another xerox machine in your office. Or ask whoever's in charge of treats if there's another place the cookies could be kept. People can be pretty understanding about stuff like that.
Then, the thing I always ask myself is this: is it worth it? And as others have suggested in this tread, the cost to us Lymies is pretty high.

Yeah the cost can be pretty high especailly if you are on higher dose abx, No sugar at all.
I think after a while when you don't feel good it's not worth it, cuz you do pay. I will do something for my son, he is 10, I do sugar free using stevia stuff like that.

thanks for the advice and the light-hearted humor. thank God there aren't any in there worth eating today.
went out to lunch with a friend and indulged in a gingerbread person. it wasn't the kind i like since it was very hard and crunchy. i love the kind that's a little softer, not mushy, but softer. the other bakery in town has those kind. frankly, my own (which i am not baking this year ) are the best!!!!
potato chips with chocolate. never had one of those. sorta like chocolate covered pretzels. mmmmmmmm.
i'll tell you how much i can't be trusted. i bought chocolate covered candy canes to give to the pastor at work. ate almost half of them IN ONE SITTING. made me feel sick. got a cranberry and nut bread. ate the whole thing. it was small.
no sugar, no carbs, no fat. too depressing.
i hear you, tutu, about the celiac disease. that's a hell of a way to avoid flour.
i am out of control with food if it's around. i'm also nuts to be tackling some of the projects i'm doing at home. i hurt all over, but the floors look beautiful.
so tired today, i almost fell off of my desk chair. it has wheels. ouch!

Resistance is futile...broke down today and ate the remnants of the old halloween candy in the freezer (not even the good stuff -- little Crunch bars!).
I hadn't had chocolate in at least a couple of months but could not stop -- I am hitting the old hot chocolate mix next!
This happens once a month, if you know what I mean.

I don't like the price I pay if I give into something sweet.
1 cookie sets me back for almost 2 weeks or so, so it is not worth it to me.
Turning away from things that make me sick has become easier over the yrs even when socializing.
It's my body, not anyone's elses, and the only one who takes care of me is me, or controls me is me - so I have learned to accept that in this way I'm different from others or the "real world" should I say - and skip on by.
I look into the "tomorrow" as I stand there scanning the sweet stuff, the fear of feeling sick is greater then the actual temptation for me at least.
