Hi,

I finally started IV ABX this week for Neuro Lyme. I have been sick for ten years and have a very long way to go. Still in a bit of shock that I finally am getting the treatment I need from a very good MD.

I was wondering if anyone had their heart race a bit after the dose? It is about an hour later, then I feel a bit shakey, like you do when you are hungry.

I told my home health care RN but she knows nothing about Lyme. As a matter of fact, when I was telling her the facts, she kept saying, "OMG. OMG!" Like she was in shock. By the time she has been my RN for three months she will know alot about Lyme. LOL

Just wondering if anyone had these side effects or any others.

Thanks,

Lakota Queen

if it was your first dose, first it should have been done at the docs office.
if you happen to be allergic to the abx then
you could have an allergic reaction, sometimes
severe.

so first doses usually should be under the care of the doc.

if was first dose, it was probably due to anticipation and aniexty, and not the medication.

might need to eat a little before next dose.

fear can cause all types of reactions.
since you've been anticipating this day for a log time, it was probably butterflys like people get when they are nervous.

however, watch the symptoms closely first couple days,
check for any rashes, fever, palpations,
closing of the throat,.
these are more serious issues and doc must be called.

Good for you LQ, I am glad you are finally getting treatment.

I don't know if you remember me we PM'd for awhile when you were seeking a dx.

I get the same feeling alot of x's.

I got my PICC line put in 2 weeks ago.

Do you have an EpiPen? In case of allergic reaction.

I am teaching my nurse about Lyme also.

But I think it is important to be careful about too much information. They tend to write down alot of what you say. And alot of times it goes on to the ins co. We need to protect our Dr's.

Feel free to PM me.

Are you pulsing?

It's possible that it might be a herx. I had rapid heart beats (resting 130 bpm!) along with "hard" heart beats before and during treatment with IV abx. It greatly diminished with treatment.

Just keep track of your symptoms! If the heart issues seem to last too long (hours) or make you unable to do other things (breathe, walk, etc.), then call your doctor or 911. Most likely it's just another one of the crazy side effects of Lyme.

Practice deep breathing to calm yourself because I'm sure the heart only races faster when you get worried about it.

Hi, Thanks for responding to this. The rapid heart beat has subsided. Yesterday was very minimal and the day before I did not have it. But yesterday was my first time doing the IV alone. Maybe it is my nerves?

I feel a little burst of energy which makes me feel half happy & ok but I waiting for that lerking backlash of a herx.

Does anyone think that my herx could be less since I herxed really badly on some antibiotics about two months? I could not get out of bed for a week.

But I hope I can get this in remission.

SORRY DON'T ALL THE WOMEN BEAT ME UP

herxing is like a woman.
you either get them or you don't.
once a month they can be mean and nasty or just calm and quiet.
they either know you over without thought or they make you feel good then kick you in the knees while your not looking.

these thought are brought to you by zman and not docdave.
there is no connection of this response to docdace.
all grievances should be sent to zman.

What kind of IV abx are you on? I would check with your doctor, like everybody said, but I know that the IV zithromax makes me and some other people speedy. I would feel like I was racing for a few hours afterwards. Each abx will probably affect differently, or it could be a herx, or a reaction to the med. Good luck and congrats on getting the tx you need!

A couple of points from past experience.
I have had faster heart beat and burning pain in resposnse to IV via PICC a number of times, so it does happen. Slowing down the IV stops the problem for me. It tyically occurs when I am really sick (froma flare up) and the IV bag is still cold from the fridge. If you go slow enough, the IV gets heated enough travelling down the PICC line to bring the temperture into tolerable range.

Be careful with an epi pen. The epinephrine, even at very small doses has caused me to pass out when I was really sick.(only when I was gravely ill with Lyme/coinfection, not now) Not sure why but one minute you are alert after that I was out.

Finally, from what I have seen in Lyme patients that I have seen and/or talked to, the ones that have had oral ABX prior to IV do not have as strong a herxhiemer reaction that those that have gone straight on IV with no prior treatment.

Hope this helps.
