The A-B-O system for blood typing is dependent on the blood group antigens that are expressed on the outer surface of an individuals' red blood cells.
Those with blood type A have NAC-gal (n-acetyl galactosamine) as the predominant blood group antigen, and those with type B have
galactose
as their primary antigen.
Those with blood type O have fucose as a predominant antigenic determinant on their red blood cells. In addition, to a lesser extent the NAC-glu (n-acetyl glucosamine) antigen would be accessible to the immune system in those with blood type O due to the limited carbohydrate antigen on the surface of type O red blood cells.
It is necessary for the body to discern the difference between self and non-self, and to prevent the immune system from attacking self. As a consequence of this "tolerance" to self, those with blood type O would have a higher tolerance to NAC-glu, and would not have as high a natural tolerance to NAC-gal and galactose as would those with blood types of A or B.
Similarly, those with blood type A would have a higher "self-tolerance" to NAC-gal.
The major carbohydrate antigenic determinants on the surface of the streptococcus bacteria are predominantly NAC-glu and NAC-gal.
As a consequence, persons with blood type O and type A would have an initial greater natural tolerance to infection from streptococcal bacteria.

The blood type books were helpful to me, and consistent with my history.
I'm an O, and I do better on meat and vegetables, but my tummy won't digest meat right now, but hopefully that will change.
On the brighter side, only eating small amounts of veggies has allowed me to wear my smaller pants.

Hmmm...interesting. I am Type O and as a teenager, when I already had Lyme, I had frequent strep infections. Had my worst ever as an adult in my 40's.
Didn't resolve, although my PCP duck told me it was fine to still have severe sore throat five days into abx, and it turned into pneumonia that lasted a month. Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
this is interesting to me, I have a HIGH strep ASO titre and i am type A.... i often wonder how I go on each day with this battle going on inside of me. Maybe this might be why?

I'm B neg, had strep off and on for years when young. One more time (which didn't happen) and my tonsils would have been history.
After the strep stopped, the pollen allergies started.

A- and I've never had strep. My mother, father, brother and sister have never ever had strep as well. We were just a family that didn't get strep for whatever reason. I read somewhere once that some people are carriers of the virus. We have all been tested when the dr suspected strep and every time it was negative.
My son however is AB- and has had strep a few times in his life.

I'm Type A+, and had strep, mono, tonsilitis and Rheumatic fever all at once at age 14, so that my tonsils and adenoids were removed.
I also developed pollen allergies around that same time,as someone else mentioned above. I wonder if that could be because the tonsils are part of the immune system, something which was not known back then.

I have had strep and actually had my toncils removed when I was 8. I also had emergancy appendcides at age 7 and at age 22 had my gallblatter removed. At age 18 I got shingles, 19 mono, 21 Kideny stones...
What does all this mean according to my blood type? I am a gemini and according the stars or moon or whatever I am prone to "sickness"-
At age 21 I was diagnoised with lyme and we think went undiagnoised for 10 years.

I'm AB+, was misdiagnosed with MS and actually have lyme. My sister is also AB+ and has adult stills disease. Whatever that means....
