I have been on Minocycline 100 mg twice a day for about 3 weeks now after being diagnosed with late stage lyme. Since starting the abx, I have been diagnosed with an adrenal mass and a very enlarged liver.
Could these new problems be a result of lyme, or are they unrelated? I now have discomfort in my right side, which leads me to believe that it is the enlarged liver. Could the mino cause the liver to enlarge?
I realize that those responding are not doctors, but your knowledge is better than most of those with the degrees. Thanks in advance for any opinions that you may have.
I have an appt with yet another doctor (endocrinologist) in mid-January. Lou

Hi Lou,
Antibiotic treatment of lyme can cause liver enzymes to increase in some extreme cases. I don't know if an enlarge liver would fall into that. Here's a link about antibiotics and the liver if you're interested...it's for people with hepatitis, but I found it informative for general use as well.
I hope you figure out the cause of the mass and the liver enlargement!

This is one of the first things our doctor taught me:
When laying down flat, feel right and left lower chest. A stressed liver/gallbladder will feel very hard when pressing on it and will rise higher than the left side. You can see it with your eyes.
Don't wait for the pain. Head for colonics, colon cleanses, Liverlife, Livit 1 and Livit 2 (an excellent ayurvedic) from Ayush, do lymph drainages, coffee enemas, Castor Oil packs overnight over the area, bile support, and the many other products that are available.
We have only one gallbladder and when gone, it's gone for good and that has other consequences all over again.
By slightly pressing on the chest area, as good old fashioned doctors used to do when they still did hands-on exams, you will be able to tell the difference between the two sides. I also used to apply my KMT microcurrent to the area - two electrodes in the back two in the front - and that got things moving. Light massage and stimulation also worked for me.
There are ways to help ourselves, if we don't wait too long.
And don't forget to bring it up with your doctor.
Take care.
Take care.

My lyme doc has me do lab work once a month and seems to check (hands on) my liver all the time. Only once was he vey concerned.
I've been told by many that antibiotics can cause many problems for the liver.
Many lyme infected patients that I know take supplements to support a healthy liver while on medication.

I'm off to the health/wellness clinic today to look at Probiotic and liver support products. Hope that I make the wise choice.
