I just read this article showing that probiotics helped 95% of babies with colic.

Probiotics do a world of good. If you are taking antibiotics and not replenishing the good bacteria they kill, you are heading for trouble.

The best one I've found is theralac www.theralac.com (not threelac, that's a different one)

A less expensive one that also works well for me is Primadophilus Reuteri.

I take them just before bed (at least 2 hours after abx)

I also take a Primal defense caplet at noon if yeast seems to be starting up. I also pack them when I travel since they don't need refrigeration. I bring the refrigerated ones too.

I'm amazed how many people I'm meeting these days who are on antibiotics and are not taking probiotics. Same for people who just plain have digestive problems and never tried probiotics.

I've given probiotics (a lovely gift) to several people who were having bad digestive problems and they all reported getting relief. Most had taken antibiotics in the past but never replenished with probiotics.

Thanks for posting this article. 16 years ago my newborn nephew had colic. I bought him some acidophilus formulated especially for babies and the colic went away. His mother had yeast during her pregnancy which is what made me think to get probiotics for him. It worked.

My mother had diarrhea for 10 years. After a year of probiotics it was completely gone. She had been on a LOT of abx over the years but never on probiotics. She was a nurse before lyme disabled her but did not know about probiotics because they don't get any education about it. Same for my allopathic doctor. Her husband was suffering on abx and I asked if he was taking probiotics. She had no idea what I was talking about.

The good news is that there are more and more studies on probiotics and even my pharmacist mentioned that I should take probiotics when he gave me my abx.

The next thing that I hope people will learn about is the benefit of kefir. Kefir is amazing for re-colonizing the colon.

Babies are born with "sterile" bowels. They do NOT have any beneficial bacteria in their bowels.

They acquire them. Meanwhile...

Mom's breast milk contains antibodies to help until the babies OWN immune system develops.

Giving PREMATURE babies normal vaccinations (following the "schedule") is not, IMO, a good idea. We need to give them a little extra time so that when we give the vaccinations, they have the defense system established to make the antibodies to the vaccine (which is how we are protected). Vaccinations should be delayed if a child was a preemie, IMO.

BTW - Theralac can go unrefridgerated for a period of time. I think it's up to 30 days? It says something on the material they send with it.

I keep it in the fridge, but take the individual pills when I travel.

Interesting Marnie -
I was a Preemie, not breast fed, had vaccinations and probably contracted Lyme early on. I had headaches, allergies, aches & pains my whole life.

Today, despite being sick and having all sorts of crazy Lyme symptoms, in some ways I feel better than I ever have, now that I am on antibiotics & probiotics and eating really healthy & doing daily detox!

Aniek, thanks for the theralac info. I've been obsessive about refrigerating it when I travel. I guess I can relax.
