Okay.. I did a search on this and came up with nothing.
In the past month the pain from this Lyme has been mainly in the back of the legs, back of the knee area. Sort of like the day after a long run, but only in a narrow section of the legs.
Sound familar?

Hi there,
I too have pain in my leg and the back of my knee along with pain in the knee I am also having pain in my tailbone and muscle pain in my back with muscle twitching. Are you having this too?

I have had muscle twitching in my arms and legs. That was just before I started abx. Those twitches have not happened for almost 3 months now.
I do have lower back pain, but I blame that on lifting my 7 month old in and out of his crib.
The strange thing is pain in the back of the knee. I've never felt this before this darn Lyme.

I've developed back of knee pain in one leg, just recently. And I've been dealing with Lyme for four years. I don't know why this suddenly came on.
I did develop tendon problems from quinolones many months ago, but it never affected this back of knee area. I can't tell if this is muscle, tendon or what.
I will be asking my LLMD about it and will PM you if I learn anything.

We must be running in very similar cycles. The odd thing about this is that I saw my LLMD yesterday and that was one of the topics.
Obvioulsy I know both of us have more symptoms than that, but for whatever reason, that back of the knee was a big nagging yesterday but comes and goes.
In any case, I remember very clearly complaining about this before my diagnosis to my G.P. and he would say, "don't you mean the front of your knee hurts?"
I would say "no, the back of it". His comment was, "that makes no sense" and hey, before long, it disappeared and I forgot about it.
Well, I forgot about it until NOW it is back. So my LLMD said that this was a good sign for me since it's part of a herx and is bringing back past symptoms. Then again, I'm getting loads of new ones, so I don't know what to think.
But yes, I KNOW what you are discussing!!!!! I worried only because I'm on cipro for bart and that is known for tendonitis, so any of these types of things make me wonder if it's the drug or is it a herx.
Always best to check with your doctor, but I for one can relate totally to what you are saying.

Yes I get that back of knee pain that comes & goes. A couple of months ago it was so excruciating I very nearly collasped. Sorry...don't have any answers though. It is lyme doing it's damage.

Hello, I too have that pain behind my leg. I had a Duck tell me that my knee blew out backwards 2 1/2 years ago. I found a LLMD and he said it was my lymphnoids that were swelling behind my knee.
Were you tested for Babs?? I was tested positive for Babs and I had all my lymphnoids swell.It may be Babs creeping around.

Hi,
I have started having this type of problem. What a pain!
This has only happened twice and lasted about two days each time, and only behind my left knee.
I have started doing 2,000mg of Mag Supplements per day and don't know if this helps with this or not, but I only seem to have it when I forget to do the Mag.

Strange... it is my left knee as well.
I have not been tested for bart. My LLMD said that the tests for coinfections are expensive and are usually not covered by insurance. So he said that we can find them by the process of treating the lyme and the coinfections will rear their ugly head. Maybe that is what is going on now?
I just found it a strange place to have pain. I also noticed that this wasn't a topic that popped up when I did a search on it, so I thought I would ask you all who can relate to this. Not to my surprise, it sounds like it's fairly common among us. Thanks for your replies.

can i jump in here? i went to the indian market at santa fe last august-sep. i walked for ages and then drove back, a 7 hour drive.
a couple of months later i started getting pain in my left leg, like a stinging sensation with a cramp. it's right below the knee in the back. and, dang, it's started in the right knee.
i thought i was having a blood clot from all the walking and driving but now i read these comments and realize, LYME!!!!!
my doc took me off ceftin for awhile about that time, so maybe it was connnected to that. but i'm back on it. man, it hurts.......

Hi again,
Just thought of the fact that Lyme likes to hide in areas of the body that don't get a lot of oxygen, like the feet. I wonder if the back of the knees is another one of those areas where it's easy for them to hide and replicate.
It's just weird that this pain came on for me after already dealing with Lyme for four years.
Oh well, I have other new symptoms, too, which I think are the coinfections - it's so hard to figure out.

check out your shoes, flippy floppy things, mules, even snow boots that don't lace, make it worse for me

Hi-I have pain and a kind of leg strain/sometimes weakness in the back of left knee. When it's real bad I even get a vein that seems to kind of pop out a little. Sometimes it gets a little swollen too.. Natalie

I have tested positive for Babesia again.
Had it and was treated one year ago, then tested negative, then about a year after ending treatment for the babesia, I started having symptoms again. Retested and was very positive.
I don't know if it is related, but the leg cramp started after I restarted the treatment for the Babesia.
The lack of oxy is interesting. This started just before I went on a trip (5 hour drive), when I got out of the car I had a hard time walking. The pain got worse during the night and then resolved the following evening.
I had taken a abx holiday for two days prior to this, because we were going to dinner with friends and I wanted a little wine.
I increased the amount of Mag I was taking, and things got better. The drive home two days latter was no problem.

I have had off and on calve spasming and tendon pain in the calve area.
Starting a few years ago I developed a tendonitis behind my knees - actually they would snap over each other. They are still sensitive and sort of bad if I don't stretch or exercise but they are getting better.
The calve pain tends to be accompanied by knee pain which goes into my hip sometimes.
How's that?

I have always been very flexible....Until levaquin.
It has tendency to shorten tendons and can lead to tendon rupture.
I was in the greatest pain ever in my ten year journey with lyme. It was agonizing.
Stopping the medication helped, but it took months to get back to a near normal state.
I still have tight tendons in my legs now, including the aches and pains that you describe. They never bothered me before the levaquin...same experience for my daughter.
It's been suggested that I begin yoga classes to stretch the tendons slowly and develop more muscle around my joints...After ten years of lyme I need some rehab!
If any of you have had levaquin experiences similar to mine, this may be the cause of your tendom problems...particularly if you had no problems like them before....

Hi,
I had the same pain you had in the same spot. I went for an MRI and of course, nothing. It looked like a bakers cyss, it looked swollen, like a bakers cyst but nothing was on the MRI.
Well, I found out I had lyme and babs, the co infection. I was out on azithromycin and Mepron and in 8 weeks my pain in my knee and my feet were gone.
I stayed on the medicine for 3 months and the doctor switched me to another abx but quess what? My pains are coming back. I think Mepron for bab is what is helping me. I am calling to get switched back on mepron.
