Prior to being diagnosed with Lyme, I was going to an acupuncturist and had extreme reactions to the nutritionals and acupuncture.

When I say extreme, I mean violent reactions, completely incapacitated with too high of fever...

I associated it with just quitting a job(building)that had toxic mold, which made everyone there sick(but I was broken down). That's what caused the Lyme to run 'rampant'... never aware I had Lyme until tested positive.

Do you think it was actually healing and I was experiencing herx, or do you think it may have just been 'kicking' the toxins around and just recycling the Lyme through my body faster?

I know this question is subjective and theoritical... Have you ever tried this and experienced herx? Did it help you in long term?

When I was seeing an acupuncturist years ago, I remember that he was careful not to do acupuncture points that would 'strengthen the pathogens' when I had an acute illness, like a cold, etc. So, it is possible that this could have occurred somehow, if the acupuncturist was not careful.

Also, I have noticed that many of the herbs and abx we take for dealing with LD often cause herxing. I don't see why this would not include chinese herbs as well. But, it is also possible that the herbs were not right for you.

Did it get better later, or would you say it just made you more ill and that is all?

With a few exceptions, my experiences were very positive. Sorry you had a difficult experience.

There is an acupuncturist here on this board. Maybe she can provide some answers too.

What Chinese herbs were you on? Are you on abx now?

I know I get reactions from certain herbs I take. I guess you could say I herx from them.

I am not sure about the acupuncture, I have never tried this.

Well welcome to the "bug club".

I am having acupuncture right now. See my post "Anyone tried acupunture?" of a few days ago. I've had no herxing, but I am not getting any herbs.

Before inserting the needles, my doc has me spit into a tissue, hold the tissue in my fist against my belly button, and then she muscle tests all my organs to see where the Lyme is.

She is consistently finding the greatest concentration in my large intestine and bladder. She still treats the bladder, since I have a problem with having to pee all the time, but the needles have not caused herxing.

I did have a major problem recently when she treated my thyroid without putting needles in my feet as well as my head. (She only did that because the other doctor broke her foot and had to stay home, so my doc was stuck putting needles in 4 patients all at once and could not keep up).

The extra energy created by this omission gave me so much "get up and go" that my mind raced, I could not sleep, I was shaking, pacing, and very short of breath. I had to go back in and have it worked on the next day by acupressure (for free).

I have had problems with Chinese herbs before, while on the Zhang Protocol. I could not tolerate the herbal forumula called Circulation P, which raised my blood pressure too high, and I was allergic to Cordyceps.

You also may just not have the right doctor for you. This is my 3rd experience with acupuncture, and my DH's 3rd also, and we both feel this doctor is light years better than what we had before. My DH got zero results before, but has already been able to cut his pain meds in half after only one session with our present doctor.

Good luck to you and I hope you can figure out the problem soon.

When I was starting to get really sick, I was seeing an accupuncturist and she gave me some herbs. One of them contained what I now realize was probably the chinese name for andrographis, and I started feeling worse.

At that time, I hadn't been diagnosed and didn't know about herxs, etc, but now I think I must have been herxing. At the time, I stopped taking the pills because I thought I was getting worse and it wasn't helping me at all.
