To make a long story short, I've developed gallstones after being on Rocephin for 3 months.
I was switched to Clafaran, for 3 months now, no improvement in Lyme or gallstones.
LLMD wants my gallbladder removed. I'm hesitant... but want it removed simply so I can go back on Rocephin (since it's the ONLY abx to help me in the past 10 years.)
My question to all of you is: has anyone gone back on Rocephin after having your gallbladder removed? What have been your experiences with it?
Thank you kindly!!! -Elizabeth

I had my gallbladder removed a year ago, and just this past August I was on Rocephin.
I did not have any problems with Rocephin and not having a gallbladder.

Hey,
I am 22 ( I think age could be important in your findings) and I started rocephin back in august. I actually already had gallstones which I didn't know about, so after only one month I had to switch to claforan.
My doctors told me that I NEEDED to have my gallblatter taken out since my gallstones were so large.
I was complete against the surgery for several reasons, but after my third attack in 2 months I decided to go forth with the surgery.
I went back on Claforan after surgery and had allergic reaction. My doctor agreed to put me back on Rocephin due to undeniable evidence that it had helped me so much in the short month in which I was on it.
My gallblatter surgery caused my babesia to become active. I got really sick shortly after surgey and just rocephin (3 months later) in now January.
My doc has put me on Rocephin with Surgeon approval and I am increasing dosage by 500 every week until I get to 2 grams.. I started at 250mg.
I am also on malarone for babs, and of course ASICOL-for rocephin.
I've experience no other problems as of yet for that-although I'm only on my second week..
Good luck!

Thank you so much everyone for sharing your experiences with me.
It makes me feel much better about my chances of doing well on Rocephin again after my surgery.
I know it's probably the best thing to do, and I'm definitely going to go through with it.
I just have this underlying fear that once it gets removed I'll have an allergic reaction to Rocephin, or something else bad will happen, like liver malfunction or something.
Probably just silly thoughts, but it's hard not to think them, it's not as though it's a reversible surgery.
Thanks again to everyone that responded, and best wishes with your own recoveries

I lost my gallbladder due to Rocephin, and my LLMD had me stay on it afterwards in case there had been any lyme settled in my gallbladder and it was released into my system from the surgery.
I think I was on it for another month, maybe six weeks, before stopping altogether (I was on 6 months total).
