Stimulating lubricant production through the consumption of proper nutrients can help moisten eyes.

Nutrients that support proper moisture levels include vitamins A, C, and E, which protect the lens and retina from oxidative damage, vitamin B6 and magnesium, lactoferrin, an important component of tears (low levels of which have been linked to dry eye), and curcumin, which inhibits production of COX-2 enzymes in the aqueous layer.

In addition, omega-6 fatty acids, such as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), have proved useful in dry eye related to Sjogren's syndrome.14-17
