Hey tabster!

How are you? long time since I hear from you.

I did Lariam, and it was a .............. terrible, terrible thing to do.

I didn't have any of the psycotic(sp?) side effects but headaches from h....l and beyond, intense head pressure, poor eye coordination and insomnia. I really believe people can go nuts on this one because you really can't sleep and if you do, you have the most psychdelic (sp?) dreams you can imagine.
Bottom line the darn evil tablet didn't do a thing to my babs, I finished the whole protocol a month ago and I haven't get rid of the headaches completely; also my eye coordination is still poor. OH WELL, I give a try but I knew the drug is to prevent malaria, no to cure it.

However, everyone is different and I know some people on this board took it with good results.

I had really good results with primaquine, did you try this one? It's was a great one for me, it took a lot of my babs sx away but I plateau on it.

Take care, nice to hear back from you,
Lymster in WA

Hi Tabby,

I was wondering where you were, too.

There was a discussion of Lariam over on CaliforniaLyme a couple of days ago. I can't remember if I saw your name as part of that or not, so in case you weren't the one who posted, go check it out.

Good luck with deciding what to do about this. It sounds like a tough decision. I only knew one person who used Lariam occasionally, almost like a maintenance thing with Babesia, and seemed to tolerate it reasonably well, but again, it was for short periods of time.

Now that we go to the same LLMD, hopefully I'll run into you one of these days.

Take care,
Jill

I took lariam for about three months and it is a really tough drug to tolerate. Although it was hard for me, especially the psy episodes, I did finally test negative on the babs igenex test.
If you decided to try this drug, be very careful of the anxiety that goes along with it. I have never had such severe panic episodes in my life.

I took Lariam for about two months and I found it extremely tough to handle because insomnia, drug-induced depression, nightmares, feeling like I was almost psychotic, etc.

After weeks of suffering my LLMD suggested that maybe it would have been better if I had started on a half dose instead of the full dose.

I basically do not think it was worth the price. I did help my Babs, but it was not worth it.

I have been on Lariam since Sep 06. together with Malarone.
At the beginning definitely very strange dreams/nightmares.....now is just fine!!!

Mepron helped a lot in the past, but once I stop I would relapse....

Let's see what happens when is time to stop the lariam.

All my babs sx are for now gone!!

I have been on Larium since August. However, my LLMD believes in low doses. I take 1/2 tab once a week. No problems.

Interesting.

But I'm wondering if those that can tolerate the Lariam are ones that don't have a history of Depression/Anxiety.

Obviously, Lyme, Babs, etc. can cause Depression. But I wonder about those who have a genetic predisposition to Depression seperate from that caused by TBD.
