Is this enough.

Amoxicillin was my very first med and since I had had so many problems with prescription meds before my lyme diagnosis, this is the dose my LLMD started me with, although within short order it was moved to 3000 a day. (1000, three times a day).
Did your doctor say if this was to break you in or if this is the dose he plans to keep you on?

He just prescribed it because I pushed. I have an appointment next week so hopefully he will increase it.
I found out after checking with 10 other doctors that a doctor friend of mine has treated lyme. I trust him and his partner (also close friend) I just dont want to tell them all my symptoms. Some are quite embarassing. However, mention the doxy right away.
I just dont want to travel 5 hours for treatment if I can get out of it.

Hopefully you will learn more when you have your appointment next week. Have you tested positive for lyme or do you have reason to believe you need to be treated for this?
My only concern with what you say is that many of the regular doctors, just don't understand lyme OR it's co-infections, so even though they may humor you and give you a med, it may not be one or the right dosage for your best intest.
So from that angle, I definitely feel lyme is serious enough to warrant a specialist. If the closest one to you is five hours away, I do understand, ESPECIALLY when you are sick already, that this doesn't sound appealing.
You mentioned a local doctor treating lyme. Is this the one you are seeing next week or a different one?

My one son has been ill with lyme/co for going well over 6 years.
When his younger brother removed a tick about 2 years ago, I knew we needed to treat immediately. We had a problem, though, our primary was a duck and my son's llmd advised me to get him 6-8 weeks of abx. Well, since I could not find a doctor - let's just say I made sure he got abx.......1500 mg of amoxi for 6 weeks. (I myself was new to the complexities and cascading symptoms of this disease. His brother had gone undiagnosed for years.)
It didn't work. Weeks later he had mono-like symptoms, anorexia-like weight loss, low grade temperature and myalgias.
He saw an llmd after 5 months of symptoms. Now he has been on abx for 17 months - babesiosis meds the last 6 months..... and he has bart yet to treat.
If you removed a tick or are having symptoms, please see a competent llmd who will look at co-infectons, viruses, mycoplasmas, heavy metals.
This is such a complex disease. My son also has hormone problems, blood pressure & pulse problems. Travel if you have to. Everyone I know does.

My 9 year old, 90 pound daughter started out on 1000mg of Amoxicillin/day and moved gradually to 4000 mg/day.
I would have a hard time believing 1500mg would do much for an adult. I hope your doctor plans on increasing it.
You definitely need a doctor that knows what he is doing.

I improved after increasing from 3-4 g/day amoxy to 7g/day.
The higher dose seemed to improve some neuro symptoms that the lower dose (3-4g) did not. I am medium height & normal weight.

I am going to keep my appointment in PA until I talk to my reg. physician next week. In the meantime, I am going to talk to my friend who has treated lyme. I mean as soon as I mentioned it, he was very knowledgable.
He just knew I had gained weight and he had not seen me as much at the ball field. He did not realize about the lyme.

I thought alot of LLMD's prescribed Doxycycline for Lyme. Or is Amoxicillin more commonly prescribed?

Amoxicillan did absolutely NOTHING for me and I wasted 3 months of treatment on it. I don't think it even crossed the blood brain barrier. Doxy is much better, but you need a high enough dose.

How high of a doseage with Doxy?
Thanks

Bump for doseage of Doxy.

I started doxy 300 mg a day for month one, 400 mg a day for month two and 500 mg a day for month 3. I've heard people go higher but its tough to tolerate. Teeth turn brown (easily removed by hygenist) extreme sun sensitivity...not a good match for summer.
Worked well for the lyme, got things under control.

Thats a very low dose of Amoxicillin. Its usually started at that dose and raised to 3,000-6,000 depending on your blood levels! What alse are you taking with amoxicillin? Probencid? Augmentin? and what other antibiotics? are you co-infected?
