My llmd wants me to take trazodone to help with my sleep disorder. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

Yes, it is the only thing that will knock me down, works well and you dont feel sleepy in the morning from it.

Hit me like a wooden mallet, didn't do anything for my daughter who has bart. Worth a try, it's non-addicting.

Way too sedating for me. Made my fog 3x worse. Didn't help my sleep, either

I've taken it for about 4-5 yrs. It's great for sleeping.
Ask your dr to give you 50mg pills ... plenty of them. Then he can give you permission to begin with 50mg and work your way up to what YOU need.
My dr said I can go up to 300mg.

My old LLMD found that amtriptyline aka Elavil works great with Lyme patients if that doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It can even be given in tiny dosages like .5 or large ones like 100!!

trazadone is great for sleep . It does not make me groggy the next day or cause weight gain.
It also helps me get DEEP sleep - I can even remember dreams now .

I'm sure weight gain [or any other side effect] would be an individual thing. And maybe the weight gain was not entirely from the med. Who knows??

I've tried lots of different sleep meds, and Trazodone is the best for me by far. It helps me get a solid 8 hours of sleep, which for me is a miracle.
I take up to 200 mg, depending on how much I need. I haven't experienced any weight gain.

Hi, Isn't Trazadone like an antidepressant and
you can't just stop taking it? You have to taper
off of it. I have been on anti depressants and

I would think it would be a good idea to taper. Trazodone is not an SSRI. I believe it would be much easier than an SSRI to get off of. I haven't tried getting off.

Yes, trazadone and all the other tryciclic antidepressants are good for sleep and anxiety. They didn't work so well as antidepressants because of the somnolence they inspired. Who cares if you are not as depressed if you are sleeping all the time. However, they are widely used for sleep and have been around for a long time.
Start with a very small dose...bite off a little bit of a pill and see how that goes. You can guage your body's response from there.
Some need to take higher doses, some, like me, bite off a tiny bit and am zonked.
This class of drugs tend to cause a hang over effect the next day, however this does seem to be dose related and many people aclimate with time.
Weight gain is a possibility, but not so much when taking smaller doses just for sleep.
This class of drugs are not SSRIs...Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors, like Zoloft, Prozax, Paxil, etc.... SSRIs require a long taper period when one wants to stop taking them. Some SSRIs cause more withdrawl issues than others. Paxil is one of the more difficult ones.

You take it only when you need to. You don't need to maintain a blood level for the sleep effects. If you were using it as an anti depressant, then you would need to maintain a blood level.
Again, this class of drugs is not used for it's antidepressant effects. Only for anxiety and sleep disorders.

I was prescribed 1-2 trazadone for sleep. I tried taking 1/2 a tab for a few days. It kept me wide awake and with the most miserable headache (Which would subside just in time to take the next one and come right back.)
I called the doctor's nurse and was told that was a side effect that would not resolve by continuing.
I hope it works for you.
(I knew before hand that I could not take tricyclics, SSRIs and any antidepressants at all, ever again but I was not believed so in an attempt to be compliant only tortured myself more. Never again!)
